- Nevadans searching for an affordable place to live may be running into more than high prices — they may be facing scams.
A Better Business Bureau (BBB) map shows Nevada ranks third in the nation when it comes to scams as a whole. The warning comes as a nationwide poll from the University of Florida shows more than 70% of respondents said housing affordability has worsened in their community, pushing more people to look for cheaper rental options that can sometimes turn out to be fraudulent.

- Las Vegas tourism officials have approved a new sponsorship agreement aimed at keeping the Las Vegas Grand Prix in town for at least another decade, committing $100 million over 10 years to support the Formula One race.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board approved the new 10-year package at a meeting held this morning. The agreement is the third sponsorship deal between the LVCVA and the Las Vegas Grand Prix since the race began, and it is the longest so far, covering 10 races from 2028 through 2037.

- Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo was pulled over for an alleged moving violation while driving in Las Vegas two months ago.
Police body camera video from the May 15 encounter shows an officer stopping Lombardo as he's driving near the Las Vegas Strip.
"Hello, how you doing, sir?" the officer asks Lombardo, who is driving with his wife in the front passenger seat, before identifying himself.
"The reason I'm stopping you is for the-" the officer begins.
"I'm Joe Lombardo," the governor says, cutting him off.
Steve Grammas, president of the LVPPA, said the governor did not use his position to avoid receiving a citation. Officers often use their discretion to let drivers off with warnings, he said.

- Less than a month after a gated community near Twain was rattled by reports of squatting, one of the people accused of living in a vacant home says she was scammed after responding to a Craigslist rental listing.
Tee Tee Olivas, who works in hospitality in Las Vegas, said she believed she had legally rented the home after finding it advertised for lease on Craigslist. Olivas said she signed a lease, received access codes and picked up keys, and did not realize for several weeks that the homeowners had not authorized any lease agreement.
“Maybe I got scammed or maybe this is not as on the ‘up and up’ as I thought it was,” Olivas said.

- Downtown Las Vegas commuters are being urged to plan as a new phase of road construction is set to begin on Casino Center Boulevard, bringing closures and lane reductions near one of the area’s busiest intersections.
The work is part of the City of Las Vegas’ $49 million project to update infrastructure along Charleston Boulevard. A stretch of Casino Center Boulevard is expected to be closed for about three weeks, while the full project is expected to end in fall 2027.
Construction on the road began in August 2025, according to the city. Crews are working to install one mile of storm drain to reduce flooding, along with new sewer and water infrastructure, traffic signal modification, median construction and new pavement.
On Monday, a new stretch of the project begins, affecting an intersection near Charleston Boulevard where local businesses sit close to the work zone.

Social media expert Benjamin Morse said platforms that help people share memories, find job opportunities and connect with others can also be used by terrorists to find and recruit people to carry out radical ideas.
“Once people who have bad intentions figure out how to weaponize social media, social media becomes dangerous,” Morse said.
Morse said the growing number of messaging apps and online communities can create dangerous separation among groups.

- On Thursday the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) gave preliminary approval to a controversial 250-foot arch that President Donald Trump wants to build near the GW Parkway and the Memorial Bridge.
By an 8-1 vote – with three members voting present – the commissioners gave preliminary approval to the site and building plans for the arch.

- Southern Nevada and the rest of the state are seeing a sharp decline in deadly crashes this year, with roadway fatalities down more than 30% compared with the same point in 2025, according to new data released this week by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
At this time last year, Nevada recorded 88 roadway fatalities from 86 fatal collisions. Between Jan. 1, 2026, and July 7, Nevada has recorded 58 roadway fatalities from 57 fatal collisions.
“The statistics are trending in the right direction which is very impressive,” said Jeff Payne, founder of Driver’s Edge, a nonprofit that offers free defensive driving and emergency training lessons to young drivers.
Traffic safety advocates said the improvement is encouraging but warned the summer months can still be deadly if drivers let their guard down.

“In the long run we can make things better; it's just a lot of us are living in the present, and it's very difficult because we're all facing that crunch of housing affordability,” Irwin said. "Nevada is one of the most insecure housing places in the U.S."
Irwin said the bill appears to leave out one of the biggest issues homeowners are facing right now: mortgage rates.
“In fact, there's really nothing we can do except get inflation down and have the Fed hopefully help on that,” he said.

33-year-old Jiaying Chen is accused of marrying multiple men, getting thousands of dollars out of them, and then disappearing.
A criminal complaint says Chen married five men between April and June of this year.
She was arrested last month.
Documents News 3 obtained show that Chen forged a Nevada Driver's license and US passport under the alias Vicky Liang.

Robert Bloch was returning home from the grocery store with his wife when he spotted flames rising from a shed behind Steve Mannarino’s house. With no one else appearing to step in, Bloch said he immediately took action.
“I banged on the door, jumped over this wall, got the water going, then jumped over this wall, got the water going again, then yelled that this neighbor had water shooting,” Bloch said. “So we had three different waters going.”
Mannarino said he and his wife were napping inside their home when he heard someone pounding on the door and yelling that there was a fire.

Attorney Michael Van, who litigates on behalf of both local tenants and landlords, said many surprise charges come from what he called “the gotcha fees.”

Las Vegas has several areas called urban heat islands, which are hotter than the surrounding areas because of less vegetation, such as trees, and more concrete development.
Residents in East Las Vegas, one of the areas considered an urban heat island, say they're not surprised that temperatures continue to rise, especially in their part of town.
"Definitely, when you go more to outskirts, there's definitely more shade, more trees everywhere, but more in the center of town it's very much less," said Anthony Flores.

- As squatter complaints continue to rise across Southern Nevada, Metro police say many of the cases become civil disputes that prevent officers from immediately removing people from private property.
Eviction experts say they're also seeing more squatters learn how to use the legal system to delay being forced out.
The issue was front and center during Metro Police's monthly First Tuesday community meeting, where property managers raised concerns about people staying well beyond the time they rented hotel rooms.
"This has happened at least a couple of occasions where they'll come in, rent the room, they'll even have somebody else come in," one property manager told officers. "So we call to have that person removed because they're trespassing at that point."
Metro officers explained that what may seem like a straightforward trespassing call can quickly become a legal gray area.
