- Underwater escape in the Baltic Sea

- In the Baltic Sea, more than 70 pilots, co-pilots and loadmasters take part in a routine air crash training exercise. Each person is lowered into the sea in a metal simulator cage, and must then escape while underwater. The exercise is designed to test the entire search and rescue system and so helicopters are scrambled to rescue the airmen as though in a real emergency situation.

- It’s an unusual sight to see US attack jets landing on a highway. That’s what happened on a road in Estonia with A-10s from a unit based in Missouri.
These aircraft are temporarily stationed at Ämari Air Base in Estonia. The pilots need to practise landing on a variety of surfaces.

Tested to the limits both physically and mentally, not all of them will make it through without quitting, but those that do, will become Latvia’s elite soldiers.
Formed in the early nineties, just after the country won its independence, the Latvian Special Forces, like those in other countries, are considered elite soldiers. That’s the pledge of Jānis Leimanis, a member of the Latvian National Guard, which is marking its 25th anniversary this year.
The guard is made up of around 9,000 volunteers who provide support to military operations and perform duties such as crisis response. We focus on two members – one who works as a veterinarian and another who works in medical services.

The Spanish contingent of NATO's Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) was training to deploy to Poland for exercise Brilliant Jump 2016. This story follows three members, from training to deployment and then on their way home.
During the Wales Summit in 2014, NATO agreed to create a Spearhead Force as part of the NATO Response Force, able to deploy at a very short notice. In 2016, Spain is heading the land component of the first NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force, the VJTF.

- Joint Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (JISR) is vital for all military operations. It provides information and intelligence to decision-makers and action-takers, helping them make informed, timely and accurate decisions. While surveillance and reconnaissance can answer the questions “what,” “when” and “where”, the combined elements from various intelligence sources and disciplines provide the answers to “how” and “why”. When all of this is combined, you create Joint ISR.
