- Description
- This is the tropical wave we need to watch closely. It is possible for it to develop into a tropical storm or hurricane as it approaches the Caribbean. Even if it doesn't develop, it could be a big rain-maker.
The American Model develops this system into a strong tropical storm or hurricane, and puts it very close to the Northeast Caribbean. The European Model does not develop it as much, but keeps it as a strong tropical wave that could bring flooding to the Caribbean.
There is dry air just to the north of it, as it pulls off the coast of Africa. It will have to fight off that dry air in order to develop.
Please stay aware, and I'll keep you up-to-date, in a measured and responsible way.

- These 2 new tropical waves coming off the coast of Africa could develop. They will both fight dry air and dust, but there is the possibility that one or both develop into tropical storms.
Hurricane Calvin will become a tropical storm today, as it approaches Hawaii. Tropical Storm Watches and Tropical Storm Warnings will soon be issued for Hawaii. Tropical storm conditions are likely on Wednesday.

- Flooding hits the Caribbean this morning with a strong tropical wave. Flooding and mudslides are possible in parts of Grenada, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, and northern Venezuela. Please be safe!
Hurricane Calvin will weaken, but it will bring tropical storm conditions to Hawaii. Rain and gusty winds will move into Hawaii Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Subtropical Storm Don will spin in the North Atlantic for days and days. I'll monitor its progress for Bermuda, Canada, and The Azores.
This hurricane season has been very active. Stronger tropical waves will move off the coast of Africa this upcoming week!

Powerful Hurricane Calvin has winds over 100 mph or 165 km/h! It will stay a hurricane in the Eastern and Central Pacific over the next few days. As it gets closer to Hawaii, it will weaken.
A new tropical wave will bring a higher chance of rain to Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada on Saturday. And another surge of Saharan Dust will blanket the Caribbean this weekend!

- Description
- Tropical storm development will become more likely soon, especially by the end of the month. Stronger tropical waves will come off the coast of Africa. There will also be more moisture in the atmosphere, which would aid in development. However, the Saharan Dust and dry air will still try to prevent these from spinning up into tropical storms or hurricanes.
Scattered showers and storms are moving through Haiti and the Dominican Republic this morning. It'll stay super hot in Jamaica and Belize.
Another tropical wave will enter the Eastern Caribbean on Saturday. The chance of rain will be higher from St. Lucia and Barbados and south through Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago.
Tropical Storm Calvin is about to become Hurricane Calvin. Calvin could be very close to Hawaii by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week!

- A massive heat dome is in place, with record breaking temperatures, and the water temperatures are soaring! These extremely warm water temperatures will eventually feed tropical storms and hurricanes, and make for a very active middle and end of the Hurricane Season. We expect it to be warm this time of year, but these temperatures are well above average!
Tropical Storm Calvin will become a hurricane, and eventually it could get close to Hawaii.
A system in the North Atlantic will try to become Tropical Storm Don, but it has to deal with some cool water.
Next week, a strong tropical wave will come off the coast of Africa, and it could develop as it approaches the Caribbean.

Yesterday, 3 earthquakes were registered just to the northeast of the Caribbean, with shaking felt in the Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, and several other locations too.
In the tropics, an area in the North Atlantic could become a tropical storm by the end of the week. Also, stronger tropical waves are coming off the coast of Africa. That will keep it active, especially in the Eastern Caribbean.
The Saharan Dust will increase tomorrow. A large plume of dust will move in, from Barbados, through Puerto Rico, into Jamaica.

A new tropical wave will move into the Eastern Caribbean Tuesday night. This will increase the rain chance for Puerto Rico, The Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, Grenada, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago.
In the Eastern Pacific, a tropical disturbance may become a tropical storm over the next 3 days. If it gets a name, it would be Tropical Storm Calvin.
The end of July should be busy. Hurricane Season will once again get active.

- The next named storm will be Tropical Storm Don, and that could form in just over two weeks. More moisture will build across the Atlantic Basin, and that will lead to stronger tropical waves that could develop into tropical storms or hurricanes. In this video, you can see the area I'm watching for Don to develop.
One tropical wave is in the Eastern Caribbean now. That will bring a higher chance of rain for Puerto Rico, through St. Lucia and Barbados.
Yesterday, a moderate earthquake hit just offshore of Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago. I'm monitoring the area closely. No tsunami was detected with this earthquake.
We will have a high threat of flooding and mudslides in parts of Guatemala and Mexico today. Please use caution!

The highest chance of rain is for Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago. Puerto Rico and Jamaica will have spotty storms, but also lots of dust and heat!
Heavy rain will impact parts of Central America. Landslides are possible! Over 150 mm of rain (half a foot!) is possible in some areas through Saturday.
The Eastern Pacific is heating up! There could be four named tropical storms and/or hurricanes in a row!

- Description
- The chance for hurricanes goes up this month, with a surge of moisture in the Atlantic during mid to late July. Right now, super warm water is helping the tropical waves stay strong, which will bring more flooding rain to the Caribbean.
Even with the warm water, there are no signs of a tropical storm or hurricane developing the next few days. Wind shear and dust will help prevent development. However, the wind shear relaxes later this month, and there will be more moisture. There is a greater chance of named systems as the month goes on. The next name on this hurricane list is "Don" - lots to track as we go over the next few weeks!

Tropical Storm and Hurricane preparations should be made in these locations, just to be safe.
Rain squalls could bring isolated flooding anywhere from Trinidad and Tobago up through Puerto Rico.
Wind shear should weaken Bret right when it moves into the Caribbean. That would make any impacts much less. Intensity is very tough to forecast. The National Hurricane Center had this as a hurricane in the Caribbean yesterday, but backed off on that today -- which is in line with what I showed you in the prior videos.

This makes sense because we have seen so much rain and storms build up in this area already this season. It is definitely a weather hot spot right now. Water temperatures are very warm, running well above average.
The American Model (GFS) is showing a tropical storm forming next weekend. The American Model is always a little crazy way out in time, so that needs to be noted. The European Model does not show development right now. However, the EURO does show moisture building in this areas. So, we have two major models and both at least hinting at something.
