- An earthquake struck at 7:23 AM with a magnitude of 6.2. That usually causes significant damage. Fortunately, it was deep. Aftershocks are likely. I am monitoring that closely!
The epicenter was just west of Guadeloupe. It was felt as far north as the British Virgin Islands, and as far south as Trinidad and Tobago.

Tomorrow, the rain chance will be a little higher for: Trinidad & Tobago, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Grenada, St. Lucia, Barbados, and Puerto Rico.

- An Atlantic storm system is cranking up the seas, bringing high winds, lots of rain and snow — and coastal flooding. Eastern Canada will deal with this system today, along with Maine and Massachusetts. Bermuda had tropical storm wind gusts.
The Caribbean cold front continues to bring cool nights to Jamaica. The rain chance will be higher today in Puerto Rico and the British and US Virgin Islands. Saharan Dust is getting thicker around Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. I'm tracking rain through parts of Guyana and Suriname.

- A sub-tropical storm may form in the Atlantic Ocean this weekend. It is spinning up right now, and will be just north of Bermuda. The first name on the 2023 Hurricane List is "Arlene". Even if it doesn't get a name, it will bring coastal flooding to New England and Canada.
A "cold" front continues to moving into the Caribbean. It's cooler in Belize, and that cooler weather moves into Jamaica later today. We'll have a better chance of rain on Sunday in Puerto Rico. The dust continues for Trinidad and Tobago.

- The Caribbean rain threat gets even higher, and the flooding continues. Guyana and Suriname are dealing with the worst flooding, but the rain chance goes up also for areas around: Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, Puerto Rico, Aurba, Jamaica, and Belize.

- Strong to severe storms are possible with another winter front. The Gulf states could see damaging winds, and this will crank up the Gulf of Mexico waters too.
Gusty winds and high seas will be an issue for Barbados, St. Lucia, Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, and Trinidad and Tobago. The rain will mainly stay in Suriname and Guyana, with a lower rain chance for Belize.

That means choppy seas and cool nights in parts of the Caribbean. The rain chance will be much higher in Belize tomorrow, and it will stay active mainly south of Trinidad and Tobago, through Guyana and Suriname.
Coastal flooding remains possible in Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and north through Dominica, and Antigua and Barbuda.

This is rare for December! Only 11 named storms have formed in the Atlantic Basin in December since 1950!

- A Caribbean wave maker is on the way, with a new storm forming just to the northeast of the Caribbean. This area northeast of Puerto Rico and off the coast of Bermuda, could become Tropical Storm Owen, or even Hurricane Owen this week. It will bring strong winds to the Azores this weekend, and potentially Spain, Portugal, Ireland, France, and the United Kingdom.
With it, the seas will be high to dangerous in The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, US & British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Kitts & Nevis, all the way south through Barbados.

A storm system will develop next week in the Central Atlantic, and if it develops substantially, it will bring hurricane conditions to the Azores next weekend.
