- Former women’s tennis champions and spouses Billie Jean King and Ilana Kloss were integral in founding the Professional Women’s Hockey League. The seed was planted in 2019 when hockey player Kendall Coyne Schofield called the pair to explain the need for a new league. King and Kloss helped secure funding and make the dream happen, and the league debuted this January (with Coyne Schofield as captain of the Minnesota PWHL team).
King and Kloss attended Minnesota’s last home game of the PWHL championship series at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Sunday, May 26, and after the game spoke about their new league’s first season. - The corpse flower (named “Horace” after the landscape architect Horace Cleveland who designed Como Park) bloomed for the first time since arriving at Como Park Zoo & Conservatory in St. Paul in 2019. The flower started unfurling around 7 a.m. Thursday May 23 and was as open as it was going to get within a few hours.
Corpse flowers typically bloom for up to three days, but the night lighting outside of the conservatory threw Horace off and by Friday morning the bloom was already closed again. Still, the atmosphere was joyous and people who waited more than three hours in line to see it said it was worth the wait.

- The corpse flower is coming in hot (like garbage) to the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul! The rare corpse flower (Amorphophallus titanum) affectionately nicknamed “Horace” will bloom for the first time since arriving at Como in 2019.
The conservatory expects it to bloom around May 19, perhaps a few days earlier. When it does, it will emit heat and a horrible smell, which is intended to attract pollinators that are also attracted to rotting animals, like carrion beetles and flies. The stinky flower will only bloom for about 12 to 24 hours but it can be smelled from up to half a mile away.
Brave sniffers can see and smell Horace at the Como’s Exhibit Gallery daily from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. In the meantime, you can keep an eye on the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory’s livestream to see how Horace is rapidly growing. #corpseflower #planttok #comoparkzooandconservatory

Local governments will be able to make the adjustment on their own time.
The transition comes after the Minnesota Legislature last year set up a commission to redesign the state’s emblems.
After 10 separate tries to pass a bill calling for a new state flag and seal design, the DFL-led Legislature cleared the proposal and Gov. Tim Walz signed it into law. #minnesotastateflag #vexilology #minnesotastatehoodday

Science and Kindness has seen an influx of younger customers who want custom garments to fit them and their personal style. These customers come to him with garments that didn’t fit well when they bought them second hand, but still have value and life.

After getting an “enthusiastically unhinged” response, the co-owners realized they had to close for renovations and quadruple the inventory they carried.
O’Neil and Richards know that romance is not just a genre for women and that people want to read love stories and about people like them. The co-owners say the genre is for everyone, you just need to find the type of story that draws you in.

- MPR News and the nonpartisan organization Braver Angels hosted an in-person conversation on Feb. 27, 2024 for Talking Sense — our election-year reporting project that aims to help Minnesotans have hard political conversations, better.
The event included a mix of people with conservative, liberal and independent political views and was held at Central Park in Woodbury.
Participants learned about political polarization, its sources, what can be done about it, and how to challenge their own stereotypes and have productive conversations with people who see politics differently. The discussion was led by Braver Angels co-founder Bill Doherty.

- Description

McCoy has a long history of upcycling and was excited by the idea of an unconventional fashion challenge for the Planned Parenthood “Ready or Hot”runway show in Minneapolis on Feb. 28.
She loves a challenge, and gets excited to show people what is possible with something they would never consider. And if she can make clothes out of condoms, her hope is maybe we can rethink our fashion choices
