- Description
- U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar survived a DFL primary match from former Minneapolis City Council member Don Samuels on Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Omar is the latest member of the "Squad," a group of progressive House members, to face reelection in the primaries. Reps. Cori Bush of Missouri and Jamaal Bowman of New York both lost their primaries this summer and their opponents were backed by the American Israel Public Affair Committee’s super PAC, the United Democracy Project.
The AIPAC gave Bush’s opponent more than $8 million and Bowman’s opponent more than $14 million.
While the AIPAC did not contribute to Samuels’ campaign this year, they previously spent $350,000 on his campaign against Omar in 2022.
Omar now faces Republican challenger Dalia Al-Aqidi in November. However, Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District is one of the most reliable Democratic strongholds in the country. #election2024 #ilhanomar #squad #reverbmpr

- On Aug. 1, 2023, Minnesota legalized recreational marijuana, and with it came the ability for adults 21 and older to grow their own cannabis. For the past year, Minnesotans have been able to grow up to eight plants in their homes, four of which can be flowering at a time.
Tim Heisel of Roseville waited until this March to start growing his own cannabis. He has been a medical patient since last year and uses cannabis to treat his PTSD and anxiety, and also help with sleep management.
Heisel’s first attempt at growing one cannabis plant yielded 92 grams of dried flower. He said the initial $700 investment for the first grow, including seeds and equipment, will be paid off with his second grow.
