Additionally, the NWS on Friday morning reported that survey teams would be looking at a corridor that stretches across north-central Illinois to the south of Chicago and into northwest Indiana that may have seen around a dozen tornadoes last night.
The survey teams will assess the amount of damage and the type of winds associated with those storms. Many other areas were hit with damaging straight-line winds.

Strong thunderstorms are expected to redevelop Friday afternoon across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, threatening more than 70 million people from Kentucky to Vermont. The severe weather is being fueled by near-record heat, with temperatures forecast to reach the mid-90s from the Carolinas to New York City.
The FOX Forecast Center said chances of severe storms aren't letting up anytime soon.
Another round of severe storms is forecast to develop over the Mid-Atlantic Sunday, with the greatest threat centered over Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Video of the scene showed officers, some armed with long guns, sheltering behind cruisers and power poles as multiple shots rang out. Another video from inside a building where people were sheltering showed a SWAT vehicle with a battering ram attached at the scene.

Midland Mayor Lori Blong said officers used a robot and a drone to confirm the suspect was dead.

- The federal arson trial of the man accused of igniting last year's deadly Palisades Fire continued Thursday, with prosecutors and defense attorneys offering different versions of the events leading up to the blaze.
Prosecutors told jurors that Jonathan Rinderknecht deliberately started the Jan. 1, 2025 fire that allegedly smoldered and later became the deadly Palisades Fire, citing surveillance footage, 911 calls, and digital evidence.
Defense attorneys argued that there is no proof Rinderknecht started the fire and said he was near the area to watch fireworks and acted consistently with someone trying to report and stop the blaze.

"Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, canceled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
