- WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A young boy from Houston battling terminal brain cancer has been sworn in to over 900 law enforcement agencies, even stopping in Waco see Waco PD and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office.
DJ Daniel has dreamed of being in law enforcement since he was young and in 2022, began a tour of meeting different police departments across the country, being sworn in as an honorary officer in law enforcement agencies, including the Waco Police Department and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office.
Since then, DJ has gone on to meet hundreds of new agencies and officials across the country.
His father Theodis Daniel says that DJ wants to meet as many agencies as he can.

BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - A wind-fueled fire ravaged several homes in Belton Wednesday morning, spreading from one home to another, destroying both and damaging a third.
“The wind was just our biggest enemy on this,” said Bell County Fire Marshal Shane Geers.
The fire was reported at about 8:30 a.m. in the 5200 block of Fenton Lane by a homeowner who reported some cardboard boxes and grass were on fire outside her home, Geers said.

- BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - A wind-fueled fire ravaged several homes in Belton Wednesday morning, spreading from one home to another, destroying both and damaging a third.

The Bell County Fire Marshal told KWTX the wind caused the fire to grow and spread to the second house.

- KILLEEN, Texas — A fire that began Sunday on Atkinson Avenue in Killeen continues into its second day, leaving 36 residents of the Liberty Apartments homeless, with Killeen Fire Chief Jim Kubinski confirming the building is a total loss.
Residents of nearby buildings, including those in the Liberty Apartments, have been waiting to return to their homes as the area remains blocked off while firefighters work to contain the flames.
Amaujaza Floyd, who has lived in Killeen for just two months, was one of many residents affected by the raging flames.
“Around 1:30 my uncle calls me and he’s like, ‘Go look outside, there’s a fire by your house,’” Floyd recalled. “I’m not home right now, so I went to look outside, and everything was black.”

Waco native Rebekah Gray, who publishes under the name R.M. Gray, released the novel “NIGHTWEAVER,” a book described as a thrilling Young Adult mixture of Pirates of the Caribbean meets modern fantasy romances, in 2023.

- ROBINSON, Texas (KWTX) - A major power outage hit thousands of Oncor customers in Robinson Tuesday after wind snapped a handful of power lines, closing schools and businesses.
Robinson Volunteer Fire Department said crews responded to snapped power lines around 6:30 Tuesday morning.
“Based on the damage that we have coming through our town, it seems like there were probably straight-line winds that came right through here as well this morning,” Robinson Volunteer Fire Department Chief Stephen Sullivan said.
He said some residents also reported roof damage, but the main impacts stemmed from a power outage impacting more than 5,000 Oncor customers in the area. Robinson ISD canceled school for the day.

- KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - UPDATE: An apartment building with 18 units is considered a total loss as authorities responded to a major fire in Killeen Sunday afternoon.
Killeen Fire Chief James Kubinski held a press conference Monday morning and said the major fire has left 36 people displaced from their homes.
There were no injuries or fatalities to civilians but minor smoke inhalation according to the chief.
Kubinski said 11 of those displaced are staying in a Red Cross shelter and are working to find a long-term solution.

As it stands now, because of a loophole in a 2019 Agriculture bill, anyone 21 and older can walk into a shop and buy a product that looks, smells, tastes and effects the body just like marijuana.
The sale of hemp-based THC products has quickly grown into a multi-billion-dollar industry while marijuana is still quite illegal.
Shops selling hemp products that contain THC have sprung up all over the state.

Pauline Conner, a native of England, was surprised by the staff at Hillside Medical Lodge in Gatesville, TX., where she’s lived the past few years, with a wedding dress, a cake, bouquet, hair and makeup and photos.
Hillside said with February being National Wedding Month, they wanted to surprise a bride who never had a wedding and after interviewing many residents, Pauline’s story seemed the perfect fit.

Senate Bill 9 was filed by District 17 Senator Joan Huffman on February 3rd and would require judges to not give certain repeat felony offenders the option of a bond to post bail as well as providing a reason in writing if they are letting a suspect go.
SB9 was approved at the Senate committee on criminal justice and if established as a law, would restrict judges on who they could give a bond to when dealing with suspects of felony charges.

Malachi Smith, a first grader at La Vega Elementary, attended the Love to the Rescue fundraiser for Shriners Children’s Texas at the Waco Convention Center.

- WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A respected and admired Central Texas fundraiser who is battling terminal cancer didn’t let that or a recent neck injury that required emergency surgery just days ago keep him from attending a prom for those with disabilities alongside a teenager with Down syndrome who asked him to be her date.
Wes Waller, 55, of Robinson, said nothing could have kept him from Tim Tebow’s annual Night to Shine at Crestview Church of Christ in Waco Friday night with Madi Potts, 19, of Hewitt.
“Absolutely not, we’re talking about Madi Potts,” Waller said. “I would have done whatever it took to be here with Madi.”

Emma Isbell, 15, of Hewitt, said she felt like a princess after dozens of people came together on Sunday afternoon in the sanctuary of Crestview Church of Christ, where Night to Shine was held, to have a private ceremony so Emma could be crowned prom queen just like all other participants Friday.

- (AP) - President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday intended to ban transgender athletes from participating in girls' and women’s sports.
The order, titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” gives federal agencies, including the Justice and Education departments, wide latitude to ensure entities that receive federal funding abide by Title IX in alignment with the Trump administration’s view, which interprets “sex” as the gender someone was assigned at birth.
“With this executive order, the war on women’s sports is over,” Trump said at a signing ceremony.
