- For more than 100 years, Hayward Field has been home to countless athletes and recording breaking events. From Steve Prefontaine to Ashton Eaton and every runner after, the University of Oregon and Eugene have grown into what we know as TrackTown USA.
To tell the story of track and running in Eugene, we have go back to 1895. UO eventually getting on the map with its first Olympian in 1908 after the connection Bill Hayward's coaching established. Since his coaching, there's been a long legacy of coaches and athletes that have come through TrackTown USA. Bill Bowerman's appearance to the track and field scene in the 1960s helped further the evolution of running.
Hayward Hall located in the tower of Hayward Field is a 4,00 sq. ft. home to plenty of trophies, archives, memorabilia and more to showcase how TrackTown came to be. - Eugene Marathon weekend is bringing multiple races to town, with events for adults, kids and spectators scheduled across Saturday and Sunday.
The first race of the weekend is the Eugene 5K, set to start at 8 a.m. Saturday on Agate Street outside Hayward Field. The course is five kilometers, or just over three miles, and participants will have one hour to finish.
Also on Saturday, the Kids Duck Dash is scheduled for runners ages 2 to 12. Children 7 and under must run with a chaperone. The Duck Dash begins at 9:30 a.m., starting just north of Hayward Field on 15th Avenue, and the race is approximately one kilometer long.
The full marathon and half marathon are set for Sunday. The marathon is 26.2 miles, and the half marathon is 13.1 miles. Runners in both races are scheduled to start at 7 a.m. Sunday at 17th Avenue and Agate Street, and they will have seven hours to complete their courses.

- The Eugene Police Department (EPD) tells us they arrested a 47-year-old man after a Safeway employee was stabbed inside the store Wednesday afternoon.
At 3:52 p.m. on April 23, EPD officers were dispatched to a reported stabbing at the Safeway at 145 E. 18th Ave., police said. The male victim, an employee in his 40s, told officers he was stabbed by a man he did not know inside the store.
Callers provided a suspect description and direction of travel, and several officers converged on the area. A short time later, an officer located the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Jason Troy Griner, near W. 17th Avenue and Mill Street.

Central Lane 911 received a call about the stabbing at 9:43 p.m. on April 22, 2026, at Washington Street and W. 12th Avenue. Eugene Police Department (EPD) officers arrived, located the victim and provided emergency medical assistance until Eugene Springfield Fire arrived and took over care. The victim was transported to a local hospital.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says the effort to bring the system fully into the 21st century has become a top priority, particularly after last year’s deadly plane crash in Washington, D.C. He pointed to outdated technology still in use across the system, noting that some equipment in service until recently dated back decades.
“What we realized was that we use an incredibly old, antiquated system,” Duffy said on Tuesday.
Airports are still using communication equipment installed in the 80's and 90's. Air traffic controllers operate systems using floppy disks and paper strips. The updates will digitize and streamline the entire process.

Trump said he made the decision at the request of Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
"Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The president said he will extend the ceasefire until Iran's leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal.

LCSO tells us a big misconception that leads impaired drivers to think they're legally safe to drive is that they're not above the legal blood alcohol limit -- .08 percent.
Officials say that doesn't mean you aren't impaired.
In Oregon, officers often make arrests before blood alcohol test -- with deputies typically observing for signs of impairement at a level that leads to probable cause for arrest.
They say it's other substances taken by a driver that can make the impact.

A secure perimeter was quickly established, surrounding streets were shut down, and nearby buildings—including City Hall and the courthouse—were locked down. The Linn Benton Regional SWAT Team was called to the scene.
Crisis negotiators attempted to resolve the situation peacefully, but after prolonged, unsuccessful negotiations, authorities say Dude reached for a firearm. SWAT then deployed less-lethal munitions to subdue him.
