- Description
- A proposed charter school near Hobble Creek Elementary and Mapleton Junior High has some Mapleton residents concerned about student safety, increased traffic and whether the neighborhood can accommodate another school.
The proposed school is planned for 1200 North, near two existing schools located less than a mile apart. Neighbors said their concerns are not necessarily about the charter school itself, but about its proposed location and the potential impact of bringing hundreds of additional students, parents, and vehicles into the area.
The proposed site is just steps away from Hobble Creek Elementary, where some children cross the area to get to school.

- Higher mortgage rates squeeze Utah buyers as builders offer incentives
- Runtime
- 3:48
- Date posted
- Description
- Rising mortgage rates are reducing what some Utah homebuyers can afford, but buyers may find opportunities in a slower market, particularly among new construction.
Al Bingham, a loan officer and mortgage expert, feels that the recent rise in rates has caught many prospective buyers off guard. The average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage was 7.4% on Oct. 8, up from 7.28% a week earlier, according to Freddie Mac.
Bingham said an increase of half a percentage point to a full point can reduce a buyer’s purchasing power by tens of thousands of dollars. That can leave people reconsidering the price range they had planned for, he said.

- Description
- While gas prices have been on a steady climb in 2026, auto insurance premiums in Utah have held mostly steady, with some insurance carriers actually lowering their rates. That makes this a good time to shop around for cheaper insurance.
“A lot of companies are in a good position right now, they are profitable and they want to bring on new clients. So we see rate decreases more this year than we’ve seen in the last four or 5 years,” said Utah insurance agent Brady Tebbs.
Tebbs, who is an agent at family-owned Tebbs Brothers Insurance in Riverton, said Utah has a competitive auto insurance market, with plenty of options for drivers.

When I came in, I told the team, I'm like, 'I don't want to be the person who kills Evermore.' But Evermore was already dead, and so, let's do something nice with the space," Sanderson explained.

- Sparks from railroad vegetation maintenance accidentally ignited the Adams Fire, according to an investigation by the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands.
The fire started July 27 along the railroad corridor near 182 W. 5700 South in Washington Terrace. Investigators determined it began in an area where Union Pacific railroad workers had recently used a brush-hog-type cutting attachment.
Investigators found a damaged steel J-bolt and metallic shavings near the fire’s origin. They concluded that metal-to-metal contact between the maintenance equipment and steel hardware produced sparks or hot particles that ignited nearby cured grass.

- 2News LIVE at 3:30p: Sparks from freight railroad equipment caused Adams Fire
- Runtime

- Date posted
