- Across the country, airports have seen more unhoused people using their facilities for temporary shelter and safety. At Salt Lake City International Airport, officials said the trend was occurring locally, but not at the same level as at larger airports.
"It's really season-dependent. You may see more during the wintertime when it gets a little bit colder, maybe not as many in the summer, but I don't think we see nearly the numbers that other large airports see," said Trevor Andresen, director of aircraft operations at Salt Lake City International Airport.
Airport officials said they encountered a small number of people on a daily basis.

- Trump warns Iran could be 'taken out in one night' after dramatic airman rescue
- Date posted
- Description
- President Donald Trump on Monday called the U.S. military’s rescue of a second F-15E airman from Iran “very historic,” as he detailed the high-risk mission carried out after the fighter jet was shot down Friday.
Appearing alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Trump also escalated his rhetoric toward Iran, warning the U.S. could strike the “entire country,” adding such action “might be tomorrow night.”
The comments came as tensions intensified over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint that carries roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply. Trump had given Iran a 48-hour ultimatum to reopen the waterway or face severe military consequences, a threat that has rattled global markets and raised fears of broader economic fallout.

- Trump says tomorrow could be the night to take out Iran
- Date posted
- Description
- Asked whether he was winding down the conflict or escalating it, President Donald Trump stated, "I don’t know. It depends what they do.”
Trump said he extended the deadline by a day, rather than letting it expire immediately after Easter.
“I thought it was inappropriate the day after Easter,” he said. “They have till tomorrow. Now we’ll see what happens. I can tell you they’re negotiating — we think in good faith, we’re going to find out. We’re getting the help of some incredible countries that want this to be ended, because it affects them also.”
He added that Iran has until 8 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday to comply.
“After that, they’re going to have no bridges. They’re going to have no power plants,” Trump said.

- Good Friday draws more attention in Utah, set to be new state holiday
- Date posted
- Description
- Good Friday, among the holiest days of the Christian calendar, marked by solemn observances of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, is set to become the newest state holiday in Utah.
The passion of Christ, sung through the ages, resounded at the Cathedral of the Madeleine on Friday — while the sponsor of the holiday measure, which passed on “healing” bipartisan votes, called it the most significant legislation in his yearslong career at the Utah Capitol.
“There’s been a reawakening,” said Sen. Kevin Stratton, R-Utah County, who said an intense focus on separating church and state led Utah to “overcorrect” in the past. “It’s honoring that Judeo-Christian tradition in our society that will help us remember who we are, and what our roots are.”

- Former Air Force pilot describes challenges in jet rescue mission
- Date posted
- Description
- A former Air Force pilot said there was a sense of relief after one crew member was rescued from a downed U.S. jet, but the search for the remaining crew member remained complex.
Mark Hasara, a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force and a KC-135 pilot who previously served as chief operating officer for refueling operations in the Middle East from 2002 to 2003, said the military operated under a clear commitment when a service member went down.
“We will not leave anyone behind,” Hasara said. “That is kind of the contract that we have across the military. It doesn't matter what service you are from, we are going to come get you and bring you home.”
Hasara said once a crew was down, all available forces shifted focus to a single mission.

- On their way: Artemis II crew pulls moonshot trigger after 1 day in Earth orbit
- Date posted
- Description
- It had been 53 years, 3 months and 17 days since the Apollo 17 crew — the final moon landing mission — left lunar orbit, headed back to Earth and ended an era.
But a new era has finally begun with the Wednesday launch of the Artemis II mission from Kennedy Space Center, an event that will kickstart the agency’s plans to venture back to a place not visited for generations.
“NASA is back in the business of sending astronauts to the moon,” said NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman after witnessing the most powerful rocket ever ridden hurtle the Orion spacecraft into orbit on the way to a 10-day, lunar flyby that aims to ensure Orion is safe enough for the agency’s grand lunar plans.
NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen strapped into the spacecraft and launched atop NASA’s Space Launch System rocket, which lit into Florida’s skies like the tip of a burning ...

On ARC Salt Lake, we interviewed Felicia Baca who is the executive director of the Salt Lake City Arts Council about this art project.
This was created to provide a way for people to hear what the Great Salt Lake life sounds like. Plus, the added benefit of a visual sphere to go along with the animal sounds.

- Description
- The USDA Forest Service is beginning a major restructuring of the agency, headlined by a historic move of its headquarters from Washington, D.C. to downtown Salt Lake City, surrounded by more than 8 million acres of U.S. Forest Service land in Utah.
“When the Secretary directed us to move the headquarters of the Forest Service closer to the people that we serve, we looked at a number of places in the west,” said Associate Chief of the Forest Service, Chris French, who’s been with the agency for more than 30 years. “Salt Lake City became an obvious choice for us.”
French said that feedback from current Forest Service employees was a major factor in choosing Salt Lake City as a destination, along with the proximity to a lot of the National Forest System.

- Mental competency can become one of the biggest roadblocks in a criminal case, delaying justice for years as courts determine whether a defendant can stand trial.
At the center is a basic question: can the person understand the case against them and assist in their own defense?
What mental competency means, and whether it differs inside a courtroom, are questions that come up often as some families wait years for cases to move forward.
