- The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for several counties across western Washington in anticipation of more record heat for June, and with it comes a heightened risk of heat-related illness.
The advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. Monday through 11 p.m. Wednesday. The region will likely experience hot conditions with temperatures expected around or above 85 to 90 degrees, which will significantly increase the risk of heat exhaustion, cramps, stroke and more, NWS said.
Experts added that these risks are higher for those who are sensitive to heat, especially people without effective cooling or hydration.
"It feels a lot more frequent, and they're [heat waves] closer and closer together," said Gwen Howell while walking through Seward Park Sunday.
Across the Puget Sound region, data from the U.S. Census Bureau shared this year showed considerable gaps in the number of households with access to air conditioning.

- Description
- The ferry ride from Seattle to Vashon Island only takes about 20 minutes. But for many people who live there, it feels like a world away.
Roughly 11,000 residents share the island — a place where farmers, tech CEOs, artists and longtime locals all seem to exist in the same orbit. It’s the kind of place where you might stand in line next to a baker, a biologist, or even a Grammy-nominated musician.
“There is something magical about this little island,” Isaac Slade said. “Vashon has sort of a strange rare mix of city people living in a rural setting with lots of rural people living right up next to the city. And it’s a 21-minute boat ride to Pike Place.”
Slade knows a thing or two about fame.
He’s the founding member and former lead singer of The Fray, the chart-topping band behind hits like “How to Save a Life,” “You Found Me” and “Look After You.”
Originally from Denver, Slade toured the world ...

- A major change could come to mail-in voting as soon as November’s mid-term election; the change would be a response to an executive order issued by President Donald Trump to tighten mail-in voting procedures.
The United States Postal Service (USPS), is now proposing a set of new rules that, if adopted, would require states to submit the names and addresses of voters receiving mail-in or absentee ballots to the postal service, plus unique barcodes tied to each voter’s outbound and return ballot envelopes.

- Team USA beat Australia 2-0 in the Group D matchup of the World Cup in Seattle on Friday despite the absence of injured forward Christian Pulisic.
A deep U.S. roster overcame Pulisic’s absence to clinch a knockout berth after only two matches for the first time. The last time the Americans served as World Cup hosts in 1994, they advanced by being one of the best third-place teams. They then lost to eventual champion Brazil in their next match, which was in the round of 16.
Pulisic, who plays for AC Milan and has 33 goals in 87 international appearances, missed Friday’s match because of a calf injury.
The U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) faced Australia at “Seattle Stadium” – normally Lumen Field – Friday as thousands of fans from both sides cheered on their teams. Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood near the stadium erupted with excitement over Team USA's win.
With this win over Australia, Team USA has clinched a spot ...
