- Description
- Former King County Superior Court Judge Roger Rogoff has sued President Donald Trump and senior Justice Department officials, arguing his firing less than an hour after being sworn in as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington violated federal law and the U.S. Constitution.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Seattle, asks a federal judge to declare Rogoff's removal unlawful, reinstate him as the district's top federal prosecutor and block the Trump administration from recognizing anyone else as the U.S. attorney until a Senate-confirmed successor is appointed.
The legal challenge stems from an unprecedented standoff that began July 15, when all 17 judges of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington unanimously appointed Rogoff under a federal statute allowing district courts to fill prolonged vacancies in U.S. attorney positions.

The Seattle Fire Department announced last week that it is proposing to add three Emergency Response Aerial Technology units, or drones, to provide aerial views during a wide range of emergency calls, including structure fires, water rescues, mass-casualty incidents and less frequent but high-risk emergencies such as railway incidents, marine fires and natural disasters.
Wednesday's meeting was the first of four public meetings scheduled in July and August to educate residents and gather feedback on the proposal.
The meetings are required under Seattle's Surveillance Technology Ordinance, which mandates public input before the city adopts new surveillance technologies.

- Description
- The bald eagle is not only majestic – it’s powerful. Yet, sometimes even an aerial predator needs a helping hand.
Dr. Marcie Logsdon learned that firsthand in April when the Bonneville Power Authority called to say they had an eagle nest on a power structure that was posing a fire and power outage risk.
“It looked like it was a higher and higher likelihood that something bad was going to happen if that nest was left in place,” said Dr. Logsdon.
Two bald eagle chicks were in the nest – one just days old, the other trying to hatch.
Dr. Logsdon was tasked with the emergency removal and care of the chicks.
Once safely removed from the power structure, the chicks were taken to Washington State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where one chick was placed in an incubator while the other worked to hatch.
“They would actually talk to each other even though the one was in the egg,” said Dr. Logsdon. “...

Seattle residents already pay one of the nation's highest combined sales tax rates at 10.55%, but supporters say the measure would expand transit service that many people rely on every day.

- The Metro Animal Shelter is struggling to keep up with an unusual increase in stray and abandoned dogs found in Puyallup parks in recent weeks, and officials believe many of the animals were intentionally left behind.
About a half-dozen dogs have been found in Puyallup parks in recent weeks, pushing the shelter to capacity. Many of the dogs have serious health issues and appear malnourished, according to shelter officials.
Officials say they cannot pinpoint exactly why they are seeing more abandoned animals, but they point to several possible factors, including the rising cost of pet care and higher fees to surrender animals at local shelters.

- Description
- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met with President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday as Beirut seeks U.S. support to stabilize southern Lebanon and advance a U.S.-backed framework agreement aimed at ending decades of hostilities with Israel.
The two leaders shook hands outside the White House before Trump called Aoun "highly respected" and unexpectedly invited reporters into the Oval Office for what had originally been scheduled as a closed-door bilateral meeting.
It marked the first visit by a Lebanese president to the White House since 2009. Aoun is pressing for Israeli troops to withdraw from parts of southern Lebanon they continue to occupy while seeking continued U.S. political and military support for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) as it works to replace Hezbollah's influence in the south.

- Washington state's midterm primary election is in just two weeks now, with several big races on the ballot.
Statewide, there are five Supreme Court seats up for grabs this fall. Of those five, four of them have primaries in August. The primary results could set the scene for major shake-ups on the court, made up of nine justices total.
Chief Justice Debra Stephens holds one of five seats on the state Supreme Court that are up for grabs this fall.
"It's unprecedented that there are five seats on the Supreme Court that will be on the ballot," Stephens said back in May.
And depending on what county and district you live in, you will see several local races on your ballot too, from U.S. representative to city council seats that are being battled over all over Washington.

- As World Cup crowds packed Seattle's stadium and waterfront for six weeks of matches and watch parties, federal and local law enforcement agencies were preparing behind the scenes for threats ranging from terrorist attacks and protests to rogue drones — work officials say will shape how the city handles major events for years to come.
There were no major security incidents during the World Cup matches in Seattle, which FBI Seattle Special Agent in Charge W. Mike Herrington said was the goal throughout the tournament.
"That's ultimately what we wanted to accomplish here, let people focus on the festivities, on the game and not have to worry about whether they were safe or not," Herrington told KOMO News in an interview Monday.

- A dangerous double threat is closing in on northwest Washington this week as wildfire smoke and scorching heat arrive together.
The smoke is pouring south from Canada just as a blast of dangerous heat settles over Whatcom County.
The combination could make it harder to breathe, harder to cool off, and more dangerous simply to be outside.
As temperatures climb into the 90s, wildfire smoke is expected to push air quality into unhealthy levels for sensitive groups, forcing many people to choose between opening the windows to escape the heat or closing them to keep the smoke out.

It was an example of how hands-on the family is in the day-to-day operations and how the company has stood the test of time to become a cornerstone of downtown Seattle for 125 years.
