- Tulip fields at Tulip Town in scenic Skagit Valley are a sea of color shining from more than a million individual tulips. It's a full year's worth of work to highlight these blooms, which only last one to two weeks.
However, working in flower fields isn't a picnic. If crews don't pick the flowers, the tulips are lost.
That means rain, shine, cold, or even snow will not deter them from picking the flowers ready to be put in bouquets, each morning before sunrise.

- Washington State Ferries making changes to handle thousands of FIFA World Cup riders in Seattle

- Description
- Hundreds of thousands of soccer fans from around the world are headed to Seattle for the FIFA World Cup in June and July - and many of those visitors will want to ride our state’s iconic ferries.
This new crush of riders will come on top of the usual surge of summer ridership.
To handle the increase, WSF says they are making changes to keep boats running and avoid delays.
First, they will have more boats on standby. The ferry service says they plan to have 20 of its 21 vessels ready to be put into service. 18 boats are the typical fleet serving the summer schedule.
Having 20 vessels ship-shape should have 2 boats ready in case a boat goes out of service.

Let's Go Washington collected signatures for two initiatives to the legislature, which were not taken up by lawmakers, and will now be on November’s ballot.
IL26-638, or the "Protecting Fairness in Girls' Sports" act:
If enacted, opposers argue it would prohibit transgender girls from playing on teams that align with their gender identity; supporters call it necessary to keep biological boys off girls’ teams.
Under the act, students who want to play on a gendered sports team must have a physical, as already required by the state, that proves their biological sex.
IL26-001, or the "Parents' Bill of Rights:”
Supporters want it enacted to ensure that parents know everything going on in their children's schools, but opposers said that the law is already clear and works for parents....

- All residents in the Wisconsin village of Shiocton were ordered to evacuate on Wednesday as the Wolf River continued to rise to record levels.
The village president's decree instructed all people within the village limits to evacuate by 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The evacuation order led residents to make tough decisions.
Officials are also asking the public to stay out of flooded areas and avoid unnecessary travel in impacted locations. Do not add additional traffic to areas where emergency responders, highway crews and local officials are actively working, authorities said.
The floodwaters rose so high that sturgeon were spotted spawning in the parking lot of a local wildlife park, not in the river itself.

In a "Welcoming City" resolution signed last May, the city council and previous mayoral administration reaffirmed city and state law that prohibits law enforcement from assisting with immigration enforcement.
The resolution further states the Seattle Police Department (SPD) must "refuse to allow its police officers to be compelled into service as de facto immigration officers."

- Description
- Pete Hegseth is facing backlash online after quoting a modified version of a Bible verse on Wednesday, sparking widespread debate.
Hegseth shared what he referred to as the “CSAR prayer,” a custom prayer reportedly used by a servicemember from Sandy-1 during a rescue mission involving “Dude 44 Alpha” in Iran. The wording closely resembles a well-known monologue from the 1994 film Pulp Fiction.
In response, Assistant to the Secretary of Defense Sean Parnell clarified that both the CSAR prayer and the Pulp Fiction dialogue are inspired by Ezekiel 25:17, but are not meant to be exact biblical quotations.
Parnell also pushed back on criticism, stating on X that claims Hegseth intentionally misquoted the verse are false and amount to misinformation.

The King County Department of Public Defense, the Washington State Office of Public Defense, the Washington Defender Association, and the Snohomish County Office of Public Defense are those who drafted the proposal.

- The Seattle Storm made a statement on draft night — trading the rights to the No. 16 pick and a 2028 second-rounder to move up to No. 8 and select Flau’jae Johnson.
That kind of move only happens when a team is fully convinced. And the Storm clearly are.
In this full, uncut interview with KOMO's Niko Tamurian, Johnson talks about joining Seattle, her mindset entering the WNBA, and how she plans to make an immediate impact.
The former LSU standout brings dynamic scoring, creativity, and playmaking ability after a decorated college career. Johnson averaged 14.2 points as a senior while shooting 46.5% from the field, scoring in double figures 27 times with nine 20+ point games. She earned First-Team All-SEC and Third-Team All-American honors in 2026.
Her résumé goes beyond the numbers — Johnson was a starting guard on LSU’s 2023 national championship team, SEC Freshman of the Year, and one of just six players in program history...
