The Councilman says he'll now block hateful commenters, instead of engaging with them.

A new non-profit group's been formed to raise money for renovations and improvements at San Pedro Park. The San Pedro Park Conservancy, like similar non-profits at Brackenridge and Hardberger Parks, is lining up donors to help renovate the park's neglected areas. Trustees of the Alamo Colleges District voted to raise its tax rate to make up for a projected budget shortfall. Trustees say they had to do it, because enrollment growth is outpacing revenue by more than three times. Also, money from the state is dropping, and with property values falling, there's less tax money coming in unless they raise the rate.
The state's Agriculture Commissioner is calling on Governor Abbott to temporarily suspend the state's 20 cents a gallon tax on gasoline and diesel fuel. Bexar County Commissioners today approved a budget of nearly $3 billion dollars for the upcoming fiscal year with no property tax increase. The vote was not unanimous. Commissioner Tommy Calvert wanted further analysis on the impact of cuts in services.
Immediately following approval of the budget, Bexar County Manager David Smith officially announced his retirement. He told commissioners that after 30 years, this was his final budget and the most difficult one. Smith plans to retire December 31.
Northeast ISD is considering campus closures as it faces a multimillion-dollar budget deficit. Sixteen elementary schools are are on the potential closure list, but it’s not known exactly how many will be shut down or when that would happen.

The cost of the Texas School Voucher system could more than double in the next legislative session to nearly four and a half billion dollars for two years. Solar Manufacturer Plans $15M Renovation
The Esperanza Community Land Trust will operate in San Antonio’s Historic West Side after getting designation approval from City Council today. The affordable housing initiative created by the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center plans to acquire up to 14 single-family homes and provide affordable rental and homeownership opportunities for low-income residents. In April, city council approved a bond award of $681,000 for the land trust.
JBSA-Fort Sam Houston is expected to gain as many as 960 Defense Health Agency jobs. The boost could help offset San Antonio’s loss of two military headquarters, Army North and Army South. However, moving the full health agency headquarters from Northern Virginia to San Antonio remains unlikely.

Plans for a $15 million renovation project at Main Plaza are moving forward. That's because the Pentagon is now buying the building in Virgina, which the headquarters had been leasing.
More and more single-family homes are being sold to investors in the San Antonio -New Braunfels area. The share of institutional investors buying homes so they can rent them out is up to more than 11 percent. The national average is less than 7 percent.
New data shows vaccination rates for required kindergarten shots and some seventh grade shots in the New Braunfels School District have fallen below the 95 percent needed for 'herd immunity.' That's the rate doctors say populations want to less the chances of an outbreak.
