First up, we cover the latest batch of fuel supports that government announced on Wednesday. With the potential of more supports on the cards, are the government doing enough in your opinion?
Elsewhere, the introduction of new rules around Short-Term Lets seem to have been kicked down the road beyond this year's summer tourism season with rows behind the scene in government.
Should elected officials provide character references in criminal cases? With former Fianna Fáil politician Jim Glennon being confirmed as the former TD who provided a reference for sex offender Daniel Ramamoorthy, pressure is being put on to prevent TD's from providing such references going forward.
And finally, with the upcoming by-elections in Dublin and Galway now just weeks away, w...

- Taoiseach Micheal Martin has ruled a mini-budget to deal with cost-of-living pressures despite calls from the opposition.
The Government had already announced a package of €750m and there was “general relief” as a result, he said.
Coupled with sectoral supports, the Government was being strategic, he said, ministers having today approved the new details of the peace plan for farmers, fishers, hauliers and the construction sector.
Both Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald and Labour leader Ivana Bacik said the Budget last October had left workers worse off.
Ms McDonald said: “You'll remember introducing the USC, Taoiseach, which was brought in by Fianna Fáil when you crashed the Irish economy.
“It's a constant drag on people’s wages, and even more so during this cost-of-living crisis. So we propose a permanent USC cut that puts €500 back into workers’ pockets.”

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is used in hospitals under supervision for pain relief; in the food industry as an additive for whipped cream; and in cars to enhance engine performance.
A study by doctors in the acute medicine department of the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin looked at all discharges of patients found to have misused nitrous oxide between 2020 and 2024.
There were 63 discharges linked to the gas misuse during that time. Quarterly presentations increased more than four-fold in the period analysed.

Hutch had plenty of criticism for the likes of Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Simon Harris, and former finance minister Paschal Donohoe, accusing the latter of fleeing his post “like a bat out of hell” when he was “offered a better wage” at the World Bank.
He clearly intends to shake things up in Dáil Éireann should he be elected, but what does that mean, especially when there’s a lack of clarity on what his actual policies are?
Should he be taken seriously?
Hutch also had some choice words for Daniel Kinahan following his recent dramatic arrest in Dubai, noting that “karma” had caught up with him.

- On the outskirts of the glittering metropolis and away from the skyscrapers and glamour synonymous with Dubai sits Al Awir Central – a large prison complex in the desert that has been described as the “Dubai version of Alcatraz”.
It is where Dublin crime boss Daniel Kinahan, one of the world’s most wanted drug traffickers, is now likely detained.
The facility on the outskirts of Dubai is just a 45-minute drive from the glitzy Palm Jumeirah resort where Kinahan spent his final hours before his arrest last Friday.
But the conditions at Al Awir could not be further from the five-star luxury that Kinahan has become accustomed to during his time in the UAE.

- Description
- A young family in south Dublin have spent over one year renovating a vacant home with the help of a grant of almost €50,000 from the State.
After long evenings and weekends working on rewiring, replumbing and redesigning the home that was left vacant for close to three years, Gearóid Jones and his fiancee Rosaleen Daly, both aged 35, have received €48,000 for the work they put into it.
“It was a huge sacrifice because it took up all of our time for a year,” Ms Daly said. “Every evening after work, Gearóid would spend hours and hours working on the house.
“You have to do the work up front and the reward came afterwards – the most important thing was to stay optimistic.”
The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant can be availed of from the Department of Housing by anyone renovating a “permanent home” out of a property that has been left vacant for at least two years.

- Description
- It has certainly been an unusual week in political terms.
With fuel prices rising sharply, demonstrations have been planned across the country this past week.
Thousands of people have taken to the streets, roads have been closed, oil refineries have been blocked and the country has come close to a complete standstill.
A package worth over €700 million was eventually agreed to tackle the rising fuel prices.
However, the government has been heavily criticised for its handling of the crisis, leading to a vote of no confidence in the Government being tabled in the Dáil.
There has also been some backlash when Michael Healy-Rae suddenly resigned as Minister of State, in a show of discontent with the Government.
But many questions remain to be answered.
Can the country afford to provide €700 million for this sector?
And with the Government operating on a very slim majority, what impact...

- Ba é seachtain thar a bheith neamhghnách í i gcúrsaí polaitíochta, gan dabht.
Le praghsanna breosla ag ardú go géar, shocraítear léirsithe ar fud na tíre an tseachtain seo caite.
Chuaigh na mílte i mbun agoide agus dúnadh bóithre, cuireadh bacainn ar scaglanna ola na tíre agus is ar éigean a bhí an tír ar tí stoptha ar fad.
Faoi dheireadh, aontaíodh pacáiste ar luach breis agus €700 milliún le dul i ngleic le hardú na bhpraghasanna breosla.
Mar sin féin, cáineadh an rialtas go géar faoin chaoi gur láimhséil siad an ghéarchéim agus cuireadh rún muiníne sa Rialtais faoi bhráid na Dála dá bharr.
Baineadh siar as daoine freisin nuair a d’éirigh Michael Healy-Rae as a phost mar Aire Stáit go tobann, mar léiriú ar a mhíshástacht leis an Rialtas.
Ach tá go leor ceisteanna fós le freagairt.
An bhfuil sé d’acmhainn ag an tír €700 milliú...

- Taoiseach Micheál Martin has insisted he will lead Fianna Fáil into the next set of elections.
He was also defiant that he “hadn’t seen anything off” in terms of a leadership challenge following a week that saw criticism from Fianna Fail backbenchers.
On Wednesday, three of the party’s youngest TDs issued a letter criticising the handling of recent fuel price protests, in which they said they viewed “events of the past few weeks with a real and deep concern”.
