- The Self Determination for Gibraltar Group has told the United Nations that Gibraltar is not a relic of the past, but a modern, self-governing territory with its own institutions, laws and democratic voice. Addressing the Special Committee on Decolonisation in New York, SDGG Chair Richard Buttigieg said the new treaty agreement on Gibraltar expressly recognised Gibraltar’s jurisdictional authority, including its laws and administration. He said this showed Gibraltar was a territory administering itself, and that its lived reality should be recognised by the Committee of 24. Mr Buttigieg said the agreement set the sovereignty dispute aside and allowed the reality of Gibraltar to speak for itself. Addressing the Committee of 24 in New York, Spain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Hector Jose Gomez Hernandez, said the principle of territorial integrity was enshrined in the United Nations Charter and remained central to Spain’s position on Gibraltar.
He said the history of Gibraltar was a long one, beginning with the military conquest of the territory by an Anglo-Dutch fleet and the expulsion of what he described as its indigenous population.
Spain’s representative said the waters and airspace around Gibraltar had never been ceded, adding that Spain considered these to have been taken illegally in the nineteenth century.

- Fabian Picardo has used his final address to the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonisation as Chief Minister to tell its members that Gibraltar will never give up its right to self-determination.
Speaking before the Committee of 24 in New York, Mr Picardo said Gibraltar had been listed as a Non-Self-Governing Territory for eighty years, since 1946, and that Gibraltarians had first appeared before the Committee in 1963.
He said more than six decades later, Gibraltar was still asking the Committee to act.
He said future generations of Gibraltarians would continue to appear before the Committee, “year after year” and “decade after decade” if necessary, until Gibraltar was removed from the list of Non-Self-Governing Territories.

The Power Cut has been caused by an interruption to the gas supply at the North Mole Power Station.
The government claims recently installed Battery Energy Storage System responded as designed, however, the sudden loss of generation exceeded the level of power that the BESS was able to absorb and stabilise at that moment.
The Gibraltar-wide power cut has caused considerable issues, with many people having travelled to Gibraltar from across Europe for the KPMG Gaming Summit.
Many of them had arranged business dinners, including one hosted by Trade Minister Nigel Feetham, but some restaurants have taken the decision to shut down for the evening, unable to cook food.
Bars around the rock are also full of people waiting to watch the first match of the World Cup.

Following continued speculation that some clubs were planning to push for the reduction or removal of this rule, the football association has made clear its position, with Ivan Robba saying 'it’s a fundamental principle' of the GFA to have these players on the pitch every week.
