- US Vice President JD Vance has sparked controversy after saying there should be “righteous anger” over the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak, arguing that the case was partly the result of a “mass invasion of migrants”.
His remarks drew a sharp response from Downing Street, which criticised those “trying to interfere in our democracy and seeking to stir up division on our streets”.

- Description
- An evil predator has been jailed for the brutal 2003 rape of a woman for which an innocent man was wrongfully convicted and jailed for 17 years.
Vile Paul Quinn, 52, was caged for 24 years yesterday for the savage beating and rape that was wrongly blamed on Salford man Andrew Malkinson. He was incorrectly picked out at as the attacker in an identity parade, and in 2004, a jury convicted him solely on the basis of eyewitness accounts.
In April, jurors at Manchester Crown Court convicted Quinn of rape, grievous bodily harm, and attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle with intent.
The victim, a mother-of-two - hailed as a hero by sentencing judge Mr Justice Bright today - was walking home along Cleggs Lane in Little Hulton, near Salford, in the early hours of July 19, 2003. The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was dragged down an embankment by Quinn where she was beaten, raped and strangled.

- The blueprint for Britain’s defence spending will be “another step up” in the amount spent on the military, Sir Keir Starmer has vowed.
The Defence Investment Plan will be published before the Nato summit in Turkey, beginning on July 7, the Prime Minister also announced.
The plan has been delayed since last year because of a stand-off within the Cabinet over costs, reporting by The Times has suggested.
The boost to defence spending is said to be worth more than £18 billion, but Chancellor Rachel Reeves and the Prime Minister are reportedly considering watering down the amount over concerns it is unaffordable.
Speaking during a visit to a defence contractor in Wiltshire, Sir Keir said the investment plan would provide the cash for the “capability” outlined in last year’s Strategic Defence Review.
In a speech during the visit, the Prime Minister said: “That is the plan that says here’s the money that goes w...

- Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was able to rake in cash by sub-letting three cottages in the grounds of Royal Lodge - despite paying just a peppercorn rent for his former home, it has emerged.
The disgraced former Duke of York's lease for his previous 99-acre Windsor estate allowed him to rent out three of the eight buildings that were within the grounds in a private deal between him and the tenants - and pocket the income himself.
However the deal, which one expert called outrageous, has been shrouded in mystery as there is no clarification on how much money the ex-prince made through subletting or how long they were sublet out for. A royal source claimed Andrew was subletting the cottages to staff at a rate to cover maintenance costs for the Royal Lodge estate.

- Nigel Farage has been accused of exploiting Henry Nowak's murder and parroting far-right lies while pretending to care about the teenager's loved ones.
The Reform leader was told his actions were "unforgivable" by Keir Starmer after he urged supporters to react with "pure cold rage" ahead of sickening violence in Southampton. Shortly after being heckled by MPs at a tense PMQs, Mr Farage retreated to a swanky private members' club favoured by celebrities and Tory grandees.
He was pictured outside Oswald's in Mayfair, a favourite haunt of Tory heavyweights like Michael Gove and George Osborne, which has previously hosted A-listers including Jay-Z, Beyonce and Prince William.
Mr Farage later claimed clashes in Southampton on Tuesday evening were "just the beginning" as he was accused of stirring up tensions.

Following the tense call, planned retaliatory attacks on a militia stronghold in Beirut were abandoned and troops heading towards the Lebanese capital were turned back, Trump claimed.
Tehran had earlier announced it was suspending peace talks unless attacks on Gaza and Lebanon stopped. Trump later insisted that after what he described as "very productive" discussions with both Netanyahu and militia representatives, an agreement had been reached to reduce the fighting.

The PM accused the Reform UK leader of pretending to respect the teenager's loved ones, who earlier this week called for calm. Mr Starmer said Mr Farage's actions in calling for "pure cold rage" were unforgivable, while anti-racism groups accused him of parroting far-right lies.
The Reform chief has been heavily criticised for his imflammatory response to the horrifying killing, which he claims is evidence of a "two tier" policing system that discriminates against white people.
On Tuesday evening there were violent clashes in Southampton - where Henry was murdered in December - with 11 police officers injured. Mr Starmer said it is a time for serious work to learn lessons and get justice for Henry, not rage.

Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, the Labour MP for Slough, accused them of trying to “politicise people’s pain”, insisting the kirpan was not used in the attack.
While Digwa was wearing the kirpan, which is usually worn under clothing, he had a second blade, described by the trial judge as “a large Sikh dagger”, which was used as the murder weapon.

- Sir Keir Starmer rejected Sir Tony Blair’s criticism of his policies, saying he had been “vindicated” by their results.
The former Labour prime minister launched a scathing attack on his successor earlier this week, accusing Sir Keir’s Government of lacking a “coherent plan” and holding back business.
But speaking to reporters on Friday, Sir Keir said he did not “agree with much” of Sir Tony’s comments.
During a visit to a train depot in west London, he said: “We can all argue about individual policies, but the real question is what’s the change, what’s the difference that is happening in a country that we inherited two years ago in a very poor place.”
Sir Keir pointed to his policies on economic growth and investment in public services, as well as falling NHS waiting lists and immigration levels and rebuilding relations with the EU as examples of his Government’s achievements.

- More than 1 MILLION young people not in work or education as 'snowflake' myths blasted

- Description
- Young people are not lazy or part of a "snowflake generation", Alan Milburn said in his landmark report on the 'Neets' crisis.
Rejecting cruel myths, the Blair-era Cabinet minister stressed 16-24-year-olds were not to blame for the failures of state. Research for his review found 84% of Neets - those not in employment, education or training - said they wanted a job or training. “The story of not trying, being soft, being a snowflake generation – I just don’t buy it,” Mr Milburn said.
His 216-page report said: “I do not accept that mental health is simply an excuse. Nor do I accept that the answer is to tell young people who are struggling simply to try harder. These are myths. Sometimes cruel ones. Young people are not to blame. Institutions that should have provided opportunities to them are the ones that have failed.”

- Nigel Farage has been urged to answer whether he reported claims Russian spies hacked his phone to expose a secret £5million “gift” from a crypto billionaire.
The Reform UK leader initially claimed the controversial handout from tycoon Christopher Harborne was to pay for his personal security, then said it was a “reward for campaigning for Brexit ”.
After the “gift” was revealed, Reform then claimed a forensic probe by counter-espionage experts found hostile state actors “ almost certainly linked to Moscow ”had sought to compromise his phone, email and bank accounts.
Chair of the Labour Party Anna Turley has now demanded the Reform UK leader explain whether this was reported to police or a security body. If Mr Farage fails to do so within 24 hours, Labour say they will take steps to ensure it is investigated instead.
