- President Donald Trump on Monday called a proposal by Iran to end the war a "piece of garbage" that he didn't bother fully reading.
Speaking from the Oval Office to reporters, Trump added that the ceasefire, which has already been tested in recent days, "is on life support."
"It's unbelievably weak. I would call it the weakest, after reading that piece of garbage they sent - I didn't even bother finish reading it. I'm not going to waste my time reading it - I would say its one of the weakest right now. It's on life support," he said of Iran's peace proposal.
Although Trump did not disclose terms of the proposal, the president said Iran refused to commit to giving up all of its enriched uranium. He said Iran "changed their mind" from just days prior.

The body said there are now nine reported cases and seven confirmed cases of the virus in the outbreak. This new figure has increased by one since the last update.
The newest case is a French woman who fell ill after boarding a repatriation flight from Tenerife. A woman is currently being treated in hospital and had “deteriorated" after testing positive for the virus, the French health minister has said.
US health officials said overnight that one American had tested "mildly positive" for the virus, without showing symptoms. This case was not counted in the new WHO total and the diagnosis is contested by the Spanish government who earlier said it “did not consider it conclusive".

The Reform leader boasted it was his “golden rule” to prevent BNP activists joining – and has even attacked its “racist agenda”. Now we can reveal how a freshly-elected Reform councillor initially admitted not denying being on the ballot paper for the BNP. David Laing, part of a motorcycle “brotherhood”, was one of dozens of Reform hopefuls victorious in Sunderland as the party ended Labour’s over 50-year city reign. But when we approached him last week over an allegation he ran for the BNP under Nick Griffin, Laing offered a puzzling account.

In her first public statement after last week's election mauling, the former Deputy PM slammed her old boss for blocking Andy Burnham's return to Parliament. And Ms Rayner - who has been tipped as a potential leadership challenger - warned the party is facing its "last chance" to keep out Reform.
Stopping short of demanding Mr Starmer steps down, she said the PM must "meet the moment" and rapidly change course. She warned: "We are in danger of becoming a party of the well-off, not working people. The Peter Mandelson scandal showed a toxic culture of cronyism."
Ms Rayner continued: "This is bigger than personalities, but it is time to acknowledge that blocking Andy Burnham was a mistake. We must show we understand the scale of change the moment calls for - that means bringing our best players into Parliament - and ...

For this man, the Red Pill was a survival strategy that eventually stopped working, debunked by statistics and psychological theory which overpowered nonsensical hateful rhetoric against women.
This is an honest account of someone's experience falling victim to the manosphere, and the difficult deconstruction of those views.

But Reform will hand the keys of Bute House to John Swinney, with the split in the Unionist seat handing the Nats key marginals.
The SNP pulled off a shock gain early on Friday by taking Shetland from the Lib Dems.
But that was cancelled out by the loss of the Western Isles to Labour, although that was a rare bright spot for Anas Sarwar, who conceded the election with just a handful of results known.
The result is set to pave the way for Tory leader Russell Findlay to hold on to his seat via the regional list. The SNP has seen its vote share plummet in the seats declared so far, down over 7% on 2021 so far with dozens of seats still to declare.
The election is set to come down to just a few key constituencies.

Varley was a high school teacher at the time of Preston's death. He is accused of murdering the child, while his partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, is accused of allowing the death, with both accused of sexual abuse.

- The woman killed in a horror blast in Bristol died a hero – after putting a child in the garden moments before the explosion.
A neighbour last night told how Joanne Shaw, 35, instructed the youngster to play outside on the trampoline when an argument erupted in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Stuart Blanchard, who lives a few doors down, said: “I spoke to the guy who called 999 and he said the child was out on the trampoline. It will haunt [them].
"She probably told [the child] to go out there to get out of the way of them arguing. I was woken to her [Joanne] shouting ‘go away, go away’ and then there was this loud boom that shook my door and windows.”

- It has been reported that a French national has contracted hantavirus after travelling on the same flight as an infected passenger from the MV Hondius.
The last 24hrs have seen a scramble to track down the passengers who travelled on a flight from St Helena to Johannesburg.
A Dutch woman flew to Johannesburg after contracting the disease onboard the MV Hondius. The woman and her husband, who also contracted the disease, both died within days of eachother.
Passengers on board the infected cruiseliner are heading towards the Canary Islands - but the islands' President is refusing to allow the vessel to dock.
Regional leader Fernando Clavijo has requested an urgent meeting with Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez. He said: "I cannot allow it to enter the Canary Islands."
Meanwhile, Spanish health minister Monica Garica has confirmed that the British doctor who was evacuated from the cruise ship is now in a more "stabl...

- Donald Trump made a string of massively inappropriate comments in front of a group of children.
He went on at length about deaths in Iran, terror killings in Iran, "transgender mutilisation of children" and repeated false claims about the 2020 election being "rigged" during an Oval Office event with schoolchildren, marking the return of the Presidential Fitness Test.
And later, on the White House lawn, he gathered a larger group of school athletes together to teach them his weird YMCA dance.
He repeatedly brought up spurious and highly politically charged claims about transgender people, including a direct conversation with a boy who is training to be a weightlifter.
You'll never compete against women in powerlifting," Trump said, before launching into a frequently trotted out, and largely inaccurate, claim about a trans weightlifter breaking a record that had "stood for 18 years."
He also asked the boy: "Do you think you...

- Sir Keir Starmer has urged voters to choose “unity over division” in a rallying cry ahead of a high-stakes set of local elections.
The PM has vowed to go into polling day “fighting for every vote” but acknowledged Labour could be in for a “challenge”, as political leaders conclude their local election campaign trails.
He made the remarks at a Labour campaign rally in south London on Tuesday, amid reports that his backbenchers are reported to be drafting a letter blaming him for the expected loss of hundreds of council seats across England, and calling on him to set a date for his resignation.
In an article for the Mirror, the Prime Minister said: “Politics is about choices. The choices that affect you and your family. On Thursday, when you go to put your vote in the ballot box, there’s a clear choice on that piece of paper.
"Unity or division. Progress versus the politics of anger. The right plan for our country u...

- At least 10 sailors have already died as a result of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Marco Rubio has said.
The Secretary of State said the US is coming to the aid of some "23,000 civilian sailors" who have been "stranded" in the Persian Gulf and "left for dead". He described them as "sitting ducks" who are "isolated", "starving" and "vulnerable".
Speaking in a White House press briefing, Rubio said it's important for Iran to "come to the negotiating table" and "accept terms". "The alternative is growing isolation, economic collapse, and ultimately total defeat," he said. "They really shouldn't test the will of the United States."
So far, only two merchant ships are known to have passed through the new U.S.-guarded route, with hundreds more bottled up in the Persian Gulf. Shippers are still wary, and it’s unclear whether U.S. military action can reassure them without reigniting the conflict that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb....

The MV Hondius, with nearly 150 people aboard, is waiting for help off the coast of Cape Verde in the Atlantic Ocean. The WHO suspects people were infected off the boat and then joined the cruise, and no rats have been found on board.
The WHO said earlier: "As of 4 May 2026, seven cases (two laboratory confirmed cases of hantavirus and five suspected cases) have been identified, including three deaths, one critically ill patient and three individuals reporting mild symptoms."

- Pete Hegseth has addressed Iran's alleged use of "kamikaze dolphins" in the war, telling a press conference today that he "can't confirm or deny" whether the US is doing the same.
Asked about reports of the marine mammals being deployed as weapons amid the ongoing Gulf crisis, the US defence secretary said: "I can't confirm or deny whether we have kamikaze dolphins, but I can confirm they don't."
General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said: "I haven't heard about kamikaze dolphins - it's like sharks with laser beams right?" Hegseth replied: "That's what it is," while shrugging.
The Iranian regime once purchased trained-to-kill dolphins from the Soviet navy in 2000, according to the BBC.
The mammals were trained by experts to attack enemies with harpoons attached to their backs, as well as undertaking kamikaze strikes against enemy ships carrying mines.

His extreme comments, on a X account under his name, can be revealed in a joint investigation with anti-racism group Hope Not Hate (HnH). When we confronted the 54-year-old at his detached property in an Essex village with our dossier of evidence, he denied being a racist.
Reform UK said it was “looking into” candidate Stuart Prior’s posts.

- Social media giants are under pressure to crackdown on antisemitism after a senior minister warned people are “two or three clicks away” from imagery seen under the Nazi regime.
Communities Secretary Steve Reed said people are being radicalised online as he called on tech firms to do more after a terror attack on two Jewish men in Golders Green in north London last week.
It comes after Metropolitan Police chief Sir Mark Rowley over the weekend warned social media is “mainstreaming” antisemitism and pointed to grim research suggesting a fifth of young people don’t believe in the Holocaust.
Keir Starmer this morning warned Iran that efforts to stir up violence and hatred in the UK “will not be tolerated” at a meeting with community leaders in Downing Street. It comes amid suspicions Tehran could be supporting attacks against Jews in Britain.
Mr Reed called on big tech to do more to “tackle online hatred”. Asked if peop...

Police confirmed that shortly before the explosion they had received a call to attend a “domestic-related incident” on Sunday. Neighbour Wayne Smith, 58, a carpenter, said: “He’s turned up at her house with a grenade and detonated it on the doorstep and killed the pair of them.”

- President Donald Trump described the Iran conflict as a "mini-war" while addressing concerns that the military action is taking "too long.
"We have a war right now, and we're to what, six weeks? He said, 'What's taking so long!' We were in Vietnam 19 years," Trump said. He added. "You have the wrong person up here, you'll be in World War III."
Last week, Trump dismissed Iran's latest proposal to bring an end to hostilities between the two nations, stating on Friday that he remained unsatisfied while criticising Iran's "fractured" leadership structure.
Trump rejected the latest proposal almost immediately upon its delivery. Iran's state-run IRNA news agency confirmed that Iran submitted its plan to mediators in Pakistan on Thursday evening.
