- When they first swung open the doors of Paris Baguette in May 2026, co-owner Arif Nazir realized other Louisvillans were longing for a taste of Paris Baguette, too. More than 1,000 customers showed up for opening day, and those numbers continued for the next two weeks. The buzz hasn't let up.
It totally caught us by surprise, because we had never imagined anything like that," Nazir told The Courier Journal. "We remember those first 10 days very, very fondly and also with some PTSD. Our life kind totally got changed."
After launching in the 1980s in South Korea, Paris Baguette now has 4,000 locations around the globe and plans to open 150 new units in North America in 2026. One of those may include a second Louisville location, according to Nazir, who teamed up with friends, Mahwish Ijaz and Nawaz Ahmed, as local franchisees.

The unit, made up of four full-time officers and one part-time, works four days a week and patrols roughly 40 distinct areas of Louisville on a rotating basis. The city’s five “sustained focus improvement” areas where LMPD has identified a need for elevated police presence and investigative resources, are among those areas.
The unit’s emphasis on community engagement over traditional policing isn’t without public safety value. Savage said the unit deters crime through simple presence, enhanced by the height of the horses that make the officers visible from a distance.

- Body camera footage recently obtained by The Courier Journal shows Alexander Marson, the Republican nominee to be the next Jefferson County Sheriff, grabbing a handcuffed suspect by the neck moments after discovering a gun – an incident Louisville Metro Police Chief Paul Humphrey later said would have led to Marson’s termination had he not first resigned.
The footage was provided to The Courier Journal under Kentucky’s open records law weeks after the paper reported Humphrey wrote in an April 2 letter he would have fired Marson over the 2024 arrest where he used a “choking technique” on a restrained man.
In the footage from the March 2024 incident, a suspect can be seen being pulled from a car by Marson and another officer before being handcuffed while lying on the ground. Officers approached the vehicle, which was parked in a lot on Cane Run Road, after searching for a man wanted for allegedly kidnapping a woman earlier in the day.

- Kentucky has become the latest state to see a rise in cases of a parasitic infection that causes diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms, according to a July 8 advisory from Norton Healthcare.
Norton physicians have diagnosed 16 cases of cyclosporiasis in adult patients over the last three weeks, none of which have required hospitalization, officials said. Clinical numbers indicate there have been seven positive tests so far during the week of July 6.
"I want to emphasize that this is not a new germ," Norton Children's Infectious Diseases Specialist Dr. Kris Bryant said. "Cases of cyclosporiasis tend to increase every year during the summer. What is new is that some states in the Midwest, including Michigan and Ohio, are reporting hundreds of cases."

According to a previous news release posted on Facebook, the site will be restored to a greenfield following the demolition to allow for future redevelopment. After structural demolition is completed, a separate contractor will dispose of the remaining contents inside the building.
The NAHA Board of Commissioners selected Renascent’s $1.3 million proposal to lead the project, expected to take around 45 days, during a November 2025 meeting.
NAHA officials said the demolition represents “the closing of an important chapter in New Albany's history.”

We've had people walk by going, ‘I thought this was like a bank or the back of a warehouse.’”
