- A driver, afraid to pull over, beaten with a baton when he was yanked from his car after a police pursuit in Trigg County.
A man whose epileptic seizures sometimes manifested in breaks with reality, punched while handcuffed.
A son shot dead, unarmed, after his mother called 911 for mental health help for the severe paranoia he was experiencing.
All three represent previously unreported allegations of excessive force by Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree uncovered by a Courier Journal investigation. Each occurred in 2020 during his first two months on the job after being appointed the rural Western Kentucky county’s head law enforcement officer.
Years later, Acree not only remains sheriff but is well into a re-election campaign to serve as the top lawman for the county's roughly 14,000 residents.https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/investigations/2026/04/23/trigg-county-sheriff-aaron-acree-history-brutality-allegations/8911665500...

- Description
- Before the dinner bell rings and Louisville's hottest new steakhouse fills up, open the silver hinge of the backyard meat locker to find a smiling, apron-wearing Dustin Olsen.
He's happy alone and in the cold of this little fridge box, surrounded by a cleaver and handsaw and hanging chunks of beef carcasses and just steps away from his cowboy-meets-posh restaurant. Olsen opened Mill Iron 4, 1758 Frankfort Ave., in early February and it's already a top hit on the list of 2026 newbies to Louisville's restaurant scene. The butcher and pitmaster "got obsessed" with beef butchery during his time learning the cuts at Red Hog, regarded as the area's first craft butcher shop.
Part of Mill Iron 4's early success is a play on the rising trend of culinary flights. Searches for food flights were on the rise by up to 400%, in 2025, according to Yelp and local examples include a build-your-own deviled egg tray at The House of Marigold and the Souper Fecta flight at Crave Ca...

His research would lead him to fascinating facts, but he didn’t want to stop there.

Drawing inspiration from his profession and natural curiosity about what surrounds him, Heine researches, films, edits and narrates his short-form videos, which are interspersed with posts about hot new homes on the market, all under his @SamHeineLouisville social media handle.
