- Earlier this year, JetBlue flew its inaugural flight into the United Kingdom. It was a game changer — not only did the airline enter the transatlantic market, but the plane that completed the flight was a single-aisle jet. For decades, flying the distance was synonymous with jumbo jets, but today narrow-body aircraft are now proving they are up for the task — and maybe even the best option. In this episode, Cheddar examines why airlines are betting on narrow-body aircraft.

- Description
- In 2015, 193 parties signed the Paris Agreement. In doing so, they agreed to pursue efforts to limit the average global temperature increase to 1.5° Celsius - or 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit -above pre-industrial levels. To be clear, our planet is already 1.1 degrees hotter than it was 150 years ago. But most scientists agree that an increase of just .4 more degrees will drastically change the world. However, it would continue to be livable. Things do get murky, though, as the projections increase above that.
Cheddar News reveals the difference between 1.5 and 2 degrees of warming.

- If you’ve ever watched a show or movie where a character is unconscious for some reason - drowning, electrocution, stabbed in a knife fight - you probably know what to expect next. Some hero will come perform what looks like cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for a minute or two, perhaps in slow motion, and definitely with a dramatic musical score. And bing, bang, boom, the unconscious character miraculously comes back to life.
If you’ve ever suspected that this is a gross exaggeration of the efficacy of CPR, well, you’re right. But exactly how wrong Hollywood gets CPR is hilarious at best and downright dangerous at worst.

With demand for luxury high-rise vistas being higher than ever, building developers are using every zoning opportunity they can to push height limits – and there’s one loophole that’s helping make that happen.

One possible solution - high-occupancy vehicle lanes (HOV), or carpool lanes - have their own thorny history. Despite pushes from the federal government for more HOV lanes in the 1970s and 1990s, the math of how HOV lanes work may mean they relieve traffic only a little - or even make it worse.

Technically, by now, you should be able to have just one transponder. Congress passed a law in 2012 requiring what’s called “interoperability” between all the nation’s toll systems - a concept that means one pass would work for every toll.
That law was supposed to take effect in 2016. Yet here you are in 2021, emerging from the pandemic and packing three or four transponders for your cross-country trip. What gives?

- From Jimmy Kimmel Live, to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, late night talk shows have always used the same set. The host of the show sits behind a big wooden desk on the right and the guest sits on a couch to the left. But what might surprise you is that this is on purpose and can be explained by diving into the origins late night television and the inception of stage performances themselves.

A 125 billion dollar loss of revenue to be exact. So it was shocking to a lot of people when news came out that while all of the giants were failing, the tiny Ted Stevens Anchorage Airport was bustling. And the reasons why it became the busiest, are why Anchorage should be on your radar.

Gas pipelines have long been a vulnerable target due to their value and exposed nature, yet while government agencies have doubled down on physical security, cybersecurity has been overlooked for decades.

In the last 5-10 years, dredging has taken ports by storm. To take just two examples: the Port of Boston recently completed a $350 million project to dredge the channel from 40 to 51 feet, and the Port of Miami requested a second dredge in 2018, just three years after completing a $205 million project to deepen their channel from 42 to 50 feet. They're far from the only ones, so why are ports in a such a race to dig deeper?
