- A Palm Beach County School District police officer facing discipline over his relationship with a former student made 62 phone calls with her lasting at least 30 minutes over about six weeks, including one that lasted nearly 7 1/2 hours, according to newly released internal-affairs records.
The School District Police Department sustained five policy violations against Officer Christopher Delgado, a school resource officer and Dungeons & Dragons club leader at a middle school. A separate criminal investigation found no probable cause to establish that a crime occurred, records show.
As CBS12 previously reported, Delgado was recommended for a 40-hour unpaid suspension and a 30-day loss of take-home vehicle privileges. The recommended discipline followed sustained findings for violating policies involving relationships with students, transporting citizens, prohibited on-duty activity, on-duty responsibilities and standard of conduct.

Judge Robert Cohen found that Alexis “Lexie” Lawler violated Florida’s nursing rules and recommended that the state Board of Nursing issue a reprimand, fine her $250 and require continuing education that includes a course on social media use, if available. - A major reversal in Stuart — the city commission is bringing back the city manager it fired without cause nearly a year ago.
This was a split decision — commissioners voted three-to-two to bring Michael Mortell back. That comes after the commission fired city manager Mike Giardino last month. Mortell was fired in October 2025.
But one of the biggest points of pushback — Mortell wasn’t even at the meeting as commissioners debated the terms of his return.
Under the agreement approved by commissioners, Mortell will start at $225,000 a year. That’s down from the more than $265,000 he was making under his previous contract. He also agreed to forgo the city’s 3% cost-of-living raise for the next year.
Commissioner Sean Reed voted against bringing Mortell back. Afterward, he proposed commissioners give up their own salaries for two years.

- There are many ways individuals and businesses can support children in foster care, as well as young adults transitioning out of the system or overcoming homelessness while working to build their futures.
The Boca Raton has been doing just that through its support of the Forever Family series. Recently, CBS12 News' Luli Ortiz visited the resort with 21-year-old Sammi and 26-year-old Valentina, both participants in Vita Nova, a Palm Beach County nonprofit that empowers young adults who have experienced homelessness or grown up in foster care.
The two young adults received a behind-the-scenes tour of the luxury resort, meeting with executives and learning about the wide range of career opportunities available within the hospitality industry.
"We hope they get some new ideas about future business potential," said Daniel Hostettler, president of The Boca Raton. "They are both in fields where they're taking care of other people, which is a large part o...

- A runway safety system designed to stop planes when they run out of runway is getting new attention following the deadly cargo plane crash at Miami International Airport.
It's called an Engineered Material Arresting System, or EMAS — a bed of lightweight, crushable material installed beyond the end of a runway.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the material crushes beneath an aircraft's landing gear, absorbing its energy and slowing the plane much faster than an open safety area could.

- The man accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend allegedly booked a room at The Ben Hotel in West Palm Beach less than an hour before fatally shooting his girlfriend at her Loxahatchee home, then checked into the hotel before an hours-long standoff with law enforcement.
According to the arrest report, Todd Wegrich booked a room at The Ben Hotel at approximately 12:14 p.m. before shooting and killing the victim at around 1 p.m.
"This seems that this is the classic textbook case of premeditated murder," said Stuart Kaplan, a defense attorney in Palm Beach Gardens and former FBI agent.
