- Mike Khazak and Sarah Hansen were forced to flee their home on Wednesday, Dec. 10 as it began to fall into the Nooksack River during historic flooding.
"I remember standing there on the corner and looking upstream and seeing the blackberries in the rocks wiggling, and all of a sudden they just started dropping out of sight," 54-year-old Khazak said. "It was surreal, like a movie — all of a sudden it was like, get out, run for your life."
Now, after the house was swept away in last week's storm, he doesn't think there's enough property left to rebuild on — even if he wanted to.

- Gov. Bob Ferguson confirmed Friday morning that Washington state's request for federal emergency assistance was approved.
In Whatcom County, there were 20 water rescues throughout Everson, Nooksack and Sumas on Wednesday night. On Thursday night, Search and Rescue had more than 40 calls for rescue. Nine people were rescued on Thursday in Skagit County.
Another atmospheric river is approaching western Washington. The storm is expected to start Sunday night and last into next week, bringing up to 3–4 inches of rain for the Cascades region in Whatcom, Skagit and Snohomish counties.

- Rivers continue to rise in Whatcom and Skagit counties on Thursday, Dec. 11. The Skagit River is expected to crest at 39 feet by Friday morning. The Nooksack River crested at a record-breaking 150 early Thursday morning.
Gov. Bob Ferguson is urging the federal government to grant and emergency proclamation amid a "potentially catastrophic" situation.
Multiple towns are experiencing major flooding including Sedro-Wolley, Concrete and Hamilton in Skagit, and Sumas and Everson in Whatcom.
