We're still days away from a possible landfall of Tropical Storm Fred in the United States, but with each update from the National Hurricane Center, we're getting a better idea of the possible impacts Fred could bring to the Carolinas.
With a possible landfall forecast in Florida Monday, remnants of Fred could bring rain to North Carolina and South Carolina next week.
As of Wednesday, the Carolinas were still not yet in the official forecast cone from the National Hurricane Center.
It was still too early to know the intensity of the storm by the time it reaches the Carolinas in the middle of next week. However the official forecast from the National Weather Service keeps Fred no stronger than a tropical storm, as of Wednesday evening.
We're expecting to have a better idea of the forecast track, and the storm strength, as we head into the weekend.

Severe thunderstorms capable of producing 80 mph winds or baseball-sized hail will now be categorized as "destructive," a classification that will prompt the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) to sound on your phone if you are near the storm.
The WEA functionality already delivers severe weather alerts to your phone for all tornado warnings and select flash flood warnings.
The change is a part of a multi-year effort by the National Weather Service to simplify their severe weather hazards and make them more assemble.
This week to help understand the change, we're looking back at part of an interview with Trisha Palmer, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service Office in Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina.

- Description
- The sunset colors are deep and saturated from smoke and haze in the Carolina sky caused by western Pacific wildfires.
Drone video recorded Wednesday near Wilkesboro, North Carolina by the Carolina Weather Group's Dan Whittaker shows the atmospheric conditions rich in smoke and haze.
As a result of the degraded atmospheric conditions, air quality alerts have been issued in the Carolinas. Particulars in the air may make it hard for some - especially the elderly, the young, and those with respiratory conditions - to breathe. For those individuals, officials are encouraging you to stay inside with the doors and windows closed.

With smoke from wildfires in Oregon, California, Canada, and the western Pacific traveling in the jet stream across the United States, the Carolina Weather Group's Dan Whittaker looks at how smoke and dust particles in the atmosphere are measured.
Dan took these measurements Wednesday in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, where an air quality alert has been issued because of smoke from western and central parts of the United States.
