Two crew members, including a NASA astronaut, living aboard the International Space Station will conduct a spacewalk Friday, April 28, to continue installation of hardware to support future power system upgrades.
NASA astronaut Steve Bowen and UAE (United Arab Emirates) astronaut Sultan Alneyadi will exit the station’s Quest airlock to prepare for future installation of upgraded solar arrays on the starboard side of the station’s truss. The astronauts will then retrieve S-band antenna equipment and bring it inside the space station for refurbishment.
The spacewalk is part of a series to augment the station’s power channels with new International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrays (iROSAs). Four of the new arrays have been installed so far, and two additional arrays will be mounted to the installed platforms during future spacewalks following their arrival this year on SpaceX’s 28th commercial resupply services mission...

Beautiful views of the mountains outside Winaka, New Zealand were seen from a live camera attached to NASA's super pressure balloon.
NASA’s super pressure balloon was carrying the SuperBIT payload when it launched Sunday, April 16.
The balloon may circle Earth for up to 100 days. A ground station in Palestine, Texas, will track the balloon's movements.
The scientific balloon will be partially inflated with helium before being released to float up into Earth’s atmosphere. As it rises, the gas inside expands due to atmospheric pressure surrounding the balloon dropping, which allows it to expand to its full size.
A smaller balloon called the tow balloon is inflated first. Its purpose is to steady the super pressure balloon during its inflation until enough helium is in it.
For launch, winds need to be light and flowing in a reliable direction both at the surface and at low levels up t...

Spacewalk preparations are under way at the International Space Station as two cosmonauts get ready for the first of three spacewalks set to begin on Tuesday.
Commander Sergey Prokopyev and Flight Engineer Dmitri Petelin are set to begin their second spacewalk together at 9:30 p.m. EDT on Tuesday. The duo spent Monday reviewing the tasks required to move a radiator from the Rassvet module to the Nauka science module during the planned six-hour and 40-minute excursion. Prokopyev and Petelin also set up their spacewalking tools, installed components on their Orlan spacesuits, and organized the Poisk module’s airlock where they will exit the station.
Roscosmos Flight Engineer Andrey Fedyaev will assist the spacewalkers in and out of their spacesuits on Tuesday and command the European robotic arm to maneuver the radiator and attach it to Nauka.

An urban heat island occurs when a city experiences much warmer temperatures than nearby rural areas. The difference in temperature between urban and less-developed rural areas has to do with how well the surfaces in each environment absorb and hold heat.

NASA and SpaceX are targeting no earlier than 12:30 a.m. EDT Friday, April 7, to launch NASA’s TEMPO (Tropospheric Emissions Monitoring of Pollution instrument). TEMPO is the first space-based instrument to monitor major air pollutants hourly in high spatial resolution – down to four square miles – in a region stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the Canadian oil sands to below Mexico City, encompassing the entire continental United States.
Liftoff will be from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Cape Canaveral, Florida atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The instrument is a payload on the satellite Intelsat 40E. It was built by Ball Aerospace and integrated onto Intelsat 40E by Maxar.

NASA and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) will announce during an event at 11 a.m. EDT (10 a.m. CDT) on Monday, April 3, from NASA Johnson Space Center’s Ellington Field in Houston, the four astronauts who will venture around the Moon. Traveling aboard NASA’s Orion spacecraft during Artemis II, the mission is the first crewed flight test on the agency’s path to establishing a long-term scientific and human presence on the lunar surface.
Artemis II is the first crewed mission aboard NASA’s foundational human deep space capabilities: the Space Launch System rocket, Orion spacecraft, and the ground systems needed to launch them. The approximately 10-day mission will test and stress the Orion spacecraft’s life-support systems to prove the capabilities and techniques required to live and work in deep space in ways only humans can do.

As one of America's leading rocket men, he worked out of a recently rediscovered office inside Hanger 6 at what is now Space Force Base in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The military base was used to develop many of the nation's earliest rockets, including those used during the Cold War and ones that would introduce space flight for the United States.
By the time Apollo was putting man on the moon, von Braun had moved across the water to what is today NASA'S Kennedy Space Center.

It's been fifty years since a snowstorm brought upwards of two feet of snow to the Carolinas on Feb. 9, 1973. And this wasn't just winter weather in the mountains: Some of the highest accumulations came across the sand hills and coastal plains of both North Carolina and South Carolina.
James Brierton talks with Melissa Griffin, the assistant state climatologist for South Carolina, and Frank Strait, a Carolina Weather Group panelist who also works with Griffin as the severe weather liaison for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
