- 4월 방한객 소비액 1조3천억원 '역대 최대' 전년비 54.6% 증가
Foreign visitor spending linked to Korean cultural activities reached a record high in April.
According to the Korea Tourism Organization's "Visit Korea Data Lab," Korean culture consumption totaled 1-point-328 trillion won, or approximately 8-hundred 73 million U.S. dollars in April, up nearly 22 percent from the previous month and more than 54 percent from the year before.
Culture consumption, or "Global Hallyu Consumption," tracks spending by foreign visitors on activities including concerts, shopping, beauty, fashion, and cultural experiences.
The surge follows boy band BTS's Gwanghwamun comeback concert in March, when spending topped one trillion won for the first time, and climbed even higher in April as the band's world tour launched in Goyang.

A fortress located in the heart of Daegu, which currently serves as a zoo has revealed new insights into the past.
A recent excavation has uncovered sophisticated construction techniques used during the Silla Kingdom some 1-thousand-500 years ago.
Cha Yun-kyung reports.
This is Dalseong Fortress, located in the heart of Daegu.
It was the site of the Gyeongsang Gamnyeong provincial office during the Joseon Dynasty, and currently houses a zoo.
For the first time, an archaeological excavation was conducted to reveal the construction methods used to build Dalseong 1,500 years ago during the Silla Dynasty.
The fortress has a circumference of 1,300 meters, slightly smaller than Gyeongju's Wolseong Palace.
However, with a width of 35 meters and a height of 17 meters, it is comparable in scale.
The construction involved building a stone foundation and finishing...

Early summer weather continues under bright skies. And that will bring UV levels to very high nationwide in the afternoon, so try to avoid direct sun exposure between noon and 3 PM when UV levels are at their highest. And sunscreen is a must.
Meanwhile, brief showers are expected this afternoon across the mountainous areas of Gangwon-do Province and Gyeongsang-do provinces, with around 5 millimeters in the forecast. And since we are in the early stage of summer, there will be a frequent chance of passing rain, so keep an umbrella handy that can shield you from light rain and UV rays.
And this afternoon, Seoul will get up to 28 degrees Celsius, Daegu to 29 degrees Busan and Jeju will be much more comfortable at 24 degrees.

A buy-side sidecar was activated for both the KOSPI and the tech-heavy KOSDAQ on Tuesday morning as markets rebounded sharply from the previous session's collapse.
The KOSPI surged nearly five percent on opening to return to the 7-thousand-8-hundred level.
Program buying orders were temporarily suspended for five minutes at 9-12 A-M after the key KOSPI 200 futures index jumped 5.16 percent to 1-thousand-2-hundred-39-point-0-5.
The rebound comes one day after panic selling triggered both sidecars and circuit breakers across the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets, halting trade during Monday's historic plunge.
As of 9-30 AM, the main index stood at 7-thousand-7-hundred-58-point-1-6, up 3-point-5-7 percent compared to yesterday's closing.

The institute explained that North Korea may have produced enough fissile material to manufacture up to 90 nuclear warheads. However, the actual number of assembled warheads is believed to be lower, likely around 60 at most.
As for China, the report said Beijing possessed around 6-hundred-20 nuclear warheads as of January this year, an increase of 20 from the previous year.
It also noted that China expanded its operational nuclear deployment, with the number of warheads deployed rising from 24 last year to 34 this year.

Yes, the team arrived at their Mexico base camp on Saturday.
They touched down in Guadalajara and, at around 4 PM local time, were greeted by fans and locals who'd gathered outside the hotel where the team is staying.

In other news.
SK Group and NVIDIA have announced an ambitious alliance for future AI infrastructure.
Kim Do-yeon tells us what this means.
A multi-year alliance between Nvidia and SK Group aims to build Asia's largest AI infrastructure.
On Monday, Nvidia CEO Huang announced this agreement during his visit to SK hynix and added Korea is the ideal launchpad for physical AI.
"The age of physical AI has finally arrived. And no country is better prepared for robotics than Korea, with its incredible wealth of AI researchers. And of course, there is the local expertise and the leadership of heavy industries and manufacturing here in Korea. The combination of these two capabilities makes Korea the ideal country to take advantage of artificial intelligence with its next wave of physical AI and robotics."
At the center of this strategy is a...

Meanwhile rampant talk about the memory chip cycle potentially peaking earlier than expected sent both the South Korean stock market and its currency tumbling during trade on this Monday.
Our Kim Jun-hong covers this latest plunge.
Panic selling swept through Korea's financial markets on Monday, dragging stocks lower and pushing the Korean won to a 17-year low.
The benchmark KOSPI closed at 7-thousand-4-hundred-84-point-41, down 8-point-29 percent from the previous session.
Just three minutes into trading, the KOSPI triggered a circuit breaker after falling more than eight percent.
Trading was halted for twenty minutes, with the index at around the 7-thousand-4-hundred-70 mark when the curb took effect.
The secondary KOSDAQ also closed down over 9 percent after triggering a sell-side sidecar and later a circuit breaker during ...

Chinese President Xi Jinping is in North Korea for a rare visit as of this Monday.
And while his agenda has yet to be announced a scholar here in South Korea believes the summit between Beijing and Pyongyang holds both symbolic as well as strategic implications.
Our foreign affairs correspondent Oh Soo-young reports.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is making his first visit to North Korea in seven years, triggering questions over both the timing and purpose of the trip.
The Chinese leader arrived in Pyongyang Monday around noon,.. beginning his two-day state visit.
This mark his first trip to North Korea since June 2019, and his first face-to-face summit with regime leader Kim Jong-un in nine months.
It also comes ahead of the anniversary of the July 11th North Korea-China treaty that underpins their military and security ties.

Well despite that invitation for direct dialogue by Mr. Trump to Tehran's leadership Israel and Iran are trading fire threatening the fragile cease-fire between the U.S. and Iran.
Cho Young-eun has the latest.
Israel launched airstrikes early Monday targeting Iran in response to missile attacks from Tehran, in a move that threatens to escalate tensions in the Middle East further.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, the air force "struck military targets belonging to the Iranian terror regime in western and central Iran."
The strikes came despite U.S. President Donald Trump's urging restraint, telling Axios that he planned to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and ask him not to retaliate, warning that such action could jeopardi...

- 케이 컬처 인 포토_“파이팅!” 세계로 퍼지는 한국식 응원
Through a single photo at a time, we take a closer look at culture in Korea. This is K-Culture in Photos.
“Fighting!” This is Korea’s unique way of saying “You can do it” or “You got this!” At first, many people thought it was just Konglish a Korean-style English expression. But now, “fighting” has even been added to the Oxford English Dictionary as a uniquely Korean expression of encouragement. And in these photos, you can see Koreans making the classic “fighting pose” raising a fist with determination. Actors do it at press events, entertainers do it on TV shows, and even national athletes do it before leaving for international competitions. Because honestly there are moments in life when everyone needs a little “fighting.” And speaking of that the real “fighting” season is almost here. The World Cup is just around the corner. So today, we’re sending a bi...

Yes, so BTS have been showcasing their massive presence in Japan, topping Billboard Japan’s 2026 'mid-year' rankings with their fifth studio album, 'ARIRANG', securing the No. 1 spot with more than 706-thousand copies sold and also ranking No. 1 in both CD sales and streaming, while placing No. 2 in downloads. The album's sustained momentum reflects the group's enduring popularity among Japanese listeners.
However, it's not just BTS who are making their name heard as six K-pop acts landed albums on Billboard Japan's first-half Top 20 album sales rankings as well. Some of those groups include Enhypen, Tomorrow X Together , HYBE's Japan-based boy group &TEAM and TWS , as well as IVE who ...

Turning now to other news from around Korea and the world.
President Lee Jae Myung has nominated current Minister for small and medium-sized enterprises, Han Seong-sook, as the country's next prime minister.
If confirmed by the National Assembly, Han would become only the second woman to hold the post in South Korean history, after former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook two decades ago.
The nomination comes as Prime Minister Kim Min-seok is expected to step down to pursue the leadership of the ruling Democratic Party.
Han is a well-known figure in the country's tech industry and is credited with helping shape South Korea's internet portal sector through her leadership at Naver Corporation.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Han said she will focus on tackling economic challenges and improving livelihoods if confirmed, while adding that she feels a heavy respons...
