Through a single photo at a time, we take a closer look at culture in Korea. This is K-Culture in Photos.
“Gaetbeol” means “mudflats.” At first glance, they may just look like endless stretches of wet mud along Korea’s coast. But these tidal mudflats are actually one of the country’s most valuable natural treasures. Recently, Korea’s mudflats moved one step closer to an expanded UNESCO World Heritage recognition after receiving an international conservation recommendation. And when the tide goes out, an entirely different world appears. Seals stretch out across the soft mud basking in the sun and cooling themselves along the wide tidal flats. Meanwhile, fishermen head out onto the mudflats to collect shellfish and seafood by hand work that has supported coastal communities for generations. But Korea’s mudflats are not only about ecology or labor. For many families, they a...

With the local elections now over, the outcome is looking to bring a new wave of change in the leadership positions for both the ruling and main opposition parties.
For more on this, we have our political correspondent Ahn Sung-jin here with us.
Welcome, Sung-jin.
Thanks for having me, Dami.
Let's first take a look at the ruling Democratic Party. What's ahead for the party leadership?
The ruling Democratic Party now turns its attention to a leadership contest, setting the stage for a fierce battle ahead of the party's national convention set to take place in August.

U.S. President Donald Trump says a deal to end the war with Iran could come within the next two or three days.
Iran and Israel have paused their military operations after Trump's intervention, but both sides are still warning they could strike again.
Kim Suh-young reports.
U.S. President Donald Trump says negotiations with Iran are in their final stages.
Speaking to reporters on Monday local time, after attending the NBA finals in New York and returning to the White House, Trump said the two sides were close to what he called a "very, very good deal."
When asked how soon a deal could come together, Trump said there could be "at least an idea" within one or two days.
He also said the Strait of Hormuz would reopen immediately once a deal is signed, adding that could happen in "two or three days."

Rain is in the forecast, so you may want to have an umbrella with you.
It will continue from tonight through tomorrow evening across northern inland Gyeonggi-do Province and northern and central inland Gangwon-do Province.
There won't be too much rainfall, ranging from 5 to 20 millimeters.
Elsewhere, sunny skies will allow UV levels to climb to "very high" levels in many areas.
Strong sunshine will also lead to elevated ozone levels.
Unlike UV rays, ozone cannot be blocked with a hat or umbrella.
So it’s best to limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
Tomorrow, Seoul will start the day at 17 degrees Celsius, Daejeon 15, and Busan 17 degrees.
Then by the afternoon, Seoul will get up to 26, Daegu 30, and Gwangju 29 degrees.
On Thursday, scattered showers are expected across central areas and parts of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.
Then by the wee...

- 젠슨 황 방한, ‘AI 생태계 경쟁’ 본격화 신호탄
Welcome to Within The Frame, where we bring the most pressing issues across the globe into focus. I'm Kim Mok-yeon.
Over the past five days, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has been in Korea, meeting with leaders from SK, Hyundai Motor Group, LG, and NAVER.
But this was more than a series of meetings, it led to concrete partnerships across AI semiconductors, cloud, and infrastructure.
From SK hynix’s expanding role in advanced memory to new collaborations in AI factories and supercomputing, the scope is clearly widening.
AI is no longer just about chips, it’s moving into data centers, telecom networks, and even national infrastructure.
So the question now is, as this global AI race accelerates, who is going to lead—and where does Korea stand in that competition?
For more on this we connect to Hwagyun Kim, Professor of Banking and Finance at Texas...

Our business correspondent Park Jun-han covers his remarks and more.
Before wrapping up his visit to Korea, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang explained the reason for his trip and the significance of the deals announced while here.
"Korea is great at manufacturing, heavy industry, electronics, and software in AI. That is very unique. Korea is great at all of it. This is a unique situation. Korea is number, maybe only after United States and China in AI research."
Huang made the comments before the Korea AI Ecosystem Reception, a closed-door meeting of tech leaders in Korea to discuss advancing AI in Korea.

The benchmark KOSPI regained tangible ground on this Tuesday bolstered by tech gains on Wall Street.
Kim Jun-hong covers this rebound as well as efforts to address the weakening won.
Korea's benchmark KOSPI bounced back sharply on Tuesday, just a day after a steep market selloff.
The index closed at 8096.93, up 8.18 percent from the previous session, with strong early buying triggering buy-side sidecars one time each for both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ.
After opening more than two percent higher, the KOSPI extended gains through the day and reclaimed the 8-thousand level.
The rebound recovered much of the previous day's losses, when the KOSPI plunged more than eight percent and the KOSDAQ over nine percent.

- From Landfill to Landmark: The Remarkable Rebirth of Nanjido
Find out how once a towering mountain of garbage has been transformed into one of Seoul's most vibrant green spaces.
On a bright summer day, lively music echoes across vast festival grounds. This is Nanjido.
Today, it's one of Seoul's most vibrant destinations.
But for many Koreans, the name Nanjido once evoked a very different image.
This was once one of the largest landfills in the country—a mountain of human-made waste.
As Seoul expanded rapidly in the 1970s, the city's waste grew just as fast. Nanjido,
then a remote island on the outskirts of the capital, was turned into a massive dumping ground.
For 15 years, garbage piled up relentlessly, eventually forming garbage mountains as high as a 30-story apartment building.
The area became a desolate landscape plagued by foul odors, toxic gases, and environmental degradation.
