- Ed Sheeran addressed the controversy surrounding his U.S. tour over the weekend, speaking publicly about the war in Gaza and free-speech concerns after rapper Macklemore was dropped from the tour and other opening acts withdrew in solidarity.
An emotional Sheeran spoke directly to roughly 50,000 fans Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, his first concert since the dispute erupted.
“I’ve never wanted to be an activist musician,” Sheeran told the crowd.
The controversy began after Macklemore, who had been opening for Sheeran, used performances at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey earlier this month to speak about the war in Gaza, including declaring, “Free Palestine.”
The remarks drew both support and backlash.
Macklemore was later removed from the remaining tour dates. Sheeran said the tour promoter, not he, decided after venues threatened to cancel upcoming concerts if Macklemore remained on the line...

For President Donald Trump, the gathering brings a packed schedule touching on nearly every major conflict currently facing the international community.
Chief among them is the ongoing war with Iran, which continues to drive up the cost of oil and energy for countries around the world, including the United States. With no clear end in sight, U.S. officials are signaling that pressure on Tehran will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
"I wouldn't necessarily put a timeline on it, but I think the president is focused on his clear objectives that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon and that they are welcome to come back to the table when they're ready to negotiate in good faith," said Mike Waltz, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, on Sunday. Trump recently said he is weighing whether to “annihilate” Iran’s regime, while Tehran has warned that any new U.S. attack would bring retaliation against American bases and interests across the region.
A senior official with the Iran-backed Houthi rebels said the group has assured the Trump administration that it won’t attack U.S. vessels in the Red Sea, even as he warned countries against joining Saudi Arabia in Yemen’s revived civil war.
The comments came as the Houthis fired a ballistic missile at Saudi Arabia's capital over the weekend.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard warned Monday that it would “change the geography of the war” if the United States escalates the conflict.

Crystal Cornelius of Chattanooga was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2019. After undergoing treatment, including radiation and a transplant using her own stem cells, Cornelius said her cancer remained.
"As aggressive as the treatment was, it still did not get it all," Cornelius said. "So I returned home for radiation, and then that's when, also, following radiation, I did my autologous stem cell transplant."
An autologous stem cell transplant uses a patient's own healthy stem cells to replace those destroyed during cancer treatment, according to City of Hope Medical Center.

A search of the apartment found handcuffs, barbells and weights, and "an unusual amount of cleaning supplies," according to police. No clothing, bedding, or any of Green's belongings were found, even though he lived at the apartment.

Cychlorphine is part of a class of laboratory-made opioids that can cause severe respiratory depression, loss of consciousness and fatal overdoses. Officials say the drug may be several times more potent than fentanyl, meaning even a small amount can pose a serious overdose risk.
The drug has been detected in counterfeit pills and powders sold as other substances, raising concerns that people could take cychlorphine without knowing it is present.
Adding to the concern, standard fentanyl test strips do not detect cychlorphine. That means a substance containing the synthetic opioid could test negative for fentanyl while still carrying a potentially deadly opioid.

- Description
- The debate over the U.S. war with Iran is intensifying on Capitol Hill as lawmakers clash over presidential war powers and Americans continue to feel the economic effects of the conflict.
The House voted 220-204 Tuesday to approve a War Powers resolution directing President Donald Trump to remove U.S. forces from hostilities with Iran. Seven Republicans joined 213 Democrats in supporting the measure, while 203 Republicans and one independent opposed it.
It marks the latest congressional attempt to challenge U.S. involvement in the conflict. A similar resolution passed the House 214-208 in July, after an earlier measure ended in a 212-212 tie in May.
The debate comes as the financial costs of the war continue to mount. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the conflict had cost the U.S. about $38 billion through August, with costs projected to increase by roughly $3 billion for each additional month of fighting.

- An F-16 fighter jet crashed during a training exercise in northern Michigan on Thursday, sending a plume of black smoke into the air and forcing nearby residents to evacuate.
The pilot ejected before the jet crashed in Grand Traverse County and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities said the pilot was conscious and speaking with law enforcement.
The aircraft was from the Texas Air National Guard's 149th Fighter Wing and was participating in a routine training exercise based out of Alpena when it went down.
Witnesses described hearing a loud crash and seeing thick black smoke rising from the area. Video from the scene showed a large plume of smoke above the crash site.
Authorities initially ordered people within a one-mile radius of the crash site to evacuate after hazardous chemicals spilled from the wreckage. F-16s carry hydrazine, a toxic chemical used in the aircraft's emergency power system.

- The Smithsonian Institution and the Kennedy Center are facing questions about the role of politics in America's cultural institutions. The Smithsonian's secretary is preparing to retire, while the Kennedy Center has closed for renovations under a board led by President Donald Trump. Recent court rulings have also placed limits on the Kennedy Center board's authority.
Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III announced September 8 that he plans to retire at the end of 2026. Bunch has led the institution since 2019 and has spent nearly 38 years at the Smithsonian.
The announcement comes as the institution faces criticism from the Trump administration over how some exhibits present American history. Critics have accused the Smithsonian of promoting a progressive political perspective.
The Smithsonian's mission includes preserving and sharing American history, science, art and culture. Its museums cover subjects ranging from the founding of the United...

- President Donald Trump says he is approaching a major decision over the future of the war with Iran, as the conflict continues to disrupt global energy markets.
Trump told Axios on Thursday that he is weighing whether to resume large-scale military attacks against Iran in an effort to bring the months-long conflict to an end.
"I have a big decision coming up," Trump said, adding that "anything could happen."
The comments come ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where Trump is expected to meet Tuesday with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman to discuss the conflict and potential next steps.
Trump said Wednesday that he hopes the war, now in its seventh month, is nearing an end. Iran has also indicated interest in reaching an agreement, though negotiations have stalled.
The Trump administration will allow top Iranian officials, including President Masoud...

- Six and a half years after the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security, or CARES Act, became law, more disturbing evidence is coming to light about just how much of the billions of dollars meant to help people was stolen.
During a news conference Monday, Attorney General Todd Blanche said, “For years, fraudsters got the message that Washington would look the other way. That era is over.”
The latest chapter in the White House fraud crackdown, dubbed "Operation Heartland Surge", conducted from June 12 to September 1, included $245 million in losses, resulting in action against more than 160 defendants.
Many of them received Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans through the Small Business Administration.
“If you steal money from the American taxpayers that should go to American workers, we’re actually gonna prosecute you and we’re gonna try to send you to prison," said Vice President JD Vance.

- The stadium might be new, but tradition runs deep for Buffalo Bills fans as they prepare for the first regular-season game at the new Highmark Stadium.
For Bonnie Thiry and Karen Berner, it's is the third stadium the Bills have called home during their lifetime.
"Even though we're in our 70s, we're hanging in there," Thiry said. "We got the Bills fever, and we're here."
From bowling ball shots to pizza from a metal filing cabinet, Bills fans brought their traditions to the new stadium.
"People say I'm a legend, and I say 'No, I'm just a rodeo clown,'" said Peter "Pizza Pete" Chapman. "I'm here to make people laugh and cheer on the Bills."
Chapman arrived early Thursday to fire up the smoker.
"Just happy to be smoking and sharing the good food with everybody, get the spirits up, bellies full," he said.
For Scott Zukowski, Thursday's game will be one more checkmark on his list of stadiums.

- Twitch streamer and political commentator Hasan Piker is drawing fresh scrutiny after saying he believes the United States has caused more terrorism around the world than al-Qaida, reviving questions about his association with Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
In an Axios interview released Thursday, Piker was asked about his earlier description of the United States as the “top dog in terrorism.”
Asked whether he believes the U.S. is worse than al-Qaida, Piker responded, “Pound for pound, as far as the number of deaths, yes,” before saying the United States has caused “tremendous terror all around the world.”
The remarks quickly spilled into Michigan’s closely watched Senate race, where El-Sayed is running against Republican Mike Rogers for the seat being vacated by Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich.
Piker campaigned with El-Sayed during the Democratic primary, an association Republicans have repeatedly highlight...

- Description
- Bills to create safety guardrails in AI development have piled up in Congress as top AI companies acknowledge incidents of agents going rogue and former employees warn time is running out to protect humanity from the consequences.
On Thursday, Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., and Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., introduced the Stop Rogue AI Act, which would require the Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology to create national standards for developing and maintaining control of AI agents.
“We can harness the benefits of AI and still know what is on our systems, who is responsible for it, and how to shut it down. And that’s just common sense," Lawler said.
In a joint press conference, Gottheimer said he and Lawler's joint effort was proof the issue doesn't have to be partisan.
“It’s frustrating because bills like this should be on the floor getting voted on," Gottheimer said.

- The Trump administration has approved visas for top Iranian officials, including the president and foreign minister, to attend next week’s U.N. General Assembly high-level meeting in New York even as the two countries are locked in a stalemated war.
The State Department said Thursday that it had approved visas for Iran’s “core delegation,” along with essential staffers to participate in the U.N. meetings. The core delegation includes President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to U.S. officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to visa privacy laws.
“Consistent with our host country obligations, the core delegation from the Iranian regime will be able to attend UN General Assembly High Level week. The delegation will be under travel restrictions and will face prohibitions on the purchase of luxury and other goods per our policy. The delegation is smaller than last year,” the statement said.

- Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday embraced the prospect of his country becoming the European Union’s first associate member, saying closer ties with the continent would ensure no country could control Canada’s markets or undermine its sovereignty.
Carney’s speech to the European Parliament repeatedly extolled cooperation between Europe and Canada — but the relationship with the U.S., which has defined Canada’s economy for decades and has increasingly soured, hung over the address.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs, demands for economic concessions, and repeated talk of making Canada the 51st state have pushed Ottawa to reduce its dependence on its neighbor and seek a far deeper economic, security and political relationship with Europe.
Carney told the parliament that he welcomed European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal, unveiled Wednesday, though he acknowledged that “associate membership” r...

Investigators publicly identified Gabrielle Amarando and Maribel Fresses as two missing women who appear in images dated to 2017. Police said the women appeared to be unconscious and had apparent injuries.
Authorities said digital evidence also captured three other people in similar conditions. One of them was identified as Nicole Fusaro, who police said appeared in a video with Raymond “R.C.” Horsch.
According to sources, Fusaro appeared to be drugged, handcuffed to a bed and later became unconscious after Horsch allegedly put a zip tie around her neck using a channel-lock tool. Police have not publicly identified another woman who...

- A group says it hacked a vandalized Flock Safety license plate reader and released data taken from the device, offering a glimpse at the amount of information the cameras can collect.
Flock cameras are used by law enforcement agencies and communities across the country to photograph passing vehicles and record information including license plates.
According to data highlighted in the report, one camera captured roughly 50,000 vehicles and 1.6 million images over a 21-day period.
Unlike a traditional traffic camera that may take a single image of a vehicle, the technology can capture dozens of photos in a single instance, documenting different portions of a passing vehicle.
The group behind the breach said it obtained the information from a Flock camera that had been vandalized and later released the data publicly.
The incident is adding to an ongoing debate over the growing use of automated license plate readers and the a...
