- Description
- A powerful winter storm system swept through the region Monday, bringing a dramatic change in weather conditions. As the system moved out on its back side, severe thunderstorms quickly gave way to a mix of sleet and rain north of Columbus.
At the same time, strong winds surged in behind the storm, sending temperatures tumbling from around 70 degrees into the upper 30s within a short period. With gusty winds continuing, wind chill values dipped below freezing in some areas, making it feel even colder.
The good news is that the unsettled weather is now moving out. The rest of the week is expected to remain storm-free, with temperatures gradually climbing.
Just in time for the official start of spring on Friday, warmer air returns to the region. By the weekend, highs will surge into the 80s with plenty of sunshine, bringing a big rebound after the early-week chill.

- Overnight Storms Leave Wind Damage in Harris and Talbot Counties as Cleanup Begins
As Bob mentioned, the storms have moved out of the area for now, but the cleanup is just getting underway for some communities after a line of strong to severe storms swept through overnight.
The storms were part of a fast-moving mesoscale convective system (MCS) — a large cluster of thunderstorms that can organize into a long line and produce widespread damaging winds across several counties or even multiple states. Unlike isolated thunderstorms, these organized systems can maintain their strength for hours and are capable of producing powerful straight-line winds, torrential rainfall, and frequent lightning.
These systems often form during the overnight hours in the Southeast, fueled by warm, humid air and strong winds higher in the atmosphere. When thunderstorms merge into a line, they can create what meteorologists call a bowing segment, where winds surge forw...

- Today's front will stall across the region tomorrow, allowing for more unsettled weather Sunday. A few isolated showers are in the forecast for Sunday afternoon. The big change tomorrow: cooler temperatures. Highs will only get into the mid-70s.
Next Week: The cooler readings won't last long, and we are back near 80 degrees on Monday. Another wave of storms is set to enter the area Monday evening. Some of these storms could produce heavy rain.
After Monday, our next big weather maker is set to move in midweek. A strong cold front will sweep through the southeast Wednesday/Thursday, bringing scattered storms. We are watching this system for a potential severe weather setup.
Because of the cold front, we will drop nearly 20 degrees. From mid-80s Wednesday to mid-60s on Thursday. Those afternoon temperatures will slowly heat up by next weekend. Morning lows, however...get ready for low-40s next Friday!

- Warm weekend ahead with isolated storms possible
- Runtime
- 2:37
- Date posted
- Description
- We are tracking isolated showers and storms for the rest of the evening. One or two of these could be strong.
The Weekend: Get ready for another warm day on Saturday. After a cloudy morning, sunshine will help fuel isolated storms in the afternoon. One or two could be strong.
Storms will be possible again Sunday afternoon, but temperatures will be cooler. Highs will be nearly 10 degrees cooler, sitting in the mid-70s!
Next Week: Those cooler temps won't last long. 80s will return Monday afternoon. Rain chances will be minimal Monday and Tuesday as a front stalls across the region.
Our next big weather maker is set to move in Wednesday/Thursday. Scattered showers and storms are possible Thursday. Because we are still so far out, it is still too early to say if we will have severe weather, but we are watching it.
Behind this front, temperatures will drop! Highs will be in the 60s Friday and 50s by next Saturday.
