- The journey from Hardaway High School to the NFL has been completed for Columbus' Mykel Williams. The former Georgia Bulldog was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the 11th pick in the first round of Thursday's NFL Draft.
Williams was a standout talent in high school, and transitioned smoothly to SEC play with Georgia. Now - he looks to do the same at the professional level.
Williams is the first Columbus native to be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft since Marcus Smith II, also from Hardaway, drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014.

- Strong winds that blew through north Columbus, killing a father and son Sunday afternoon, have been unofficially classified an EF-1 tornado with 90 mph winds, according to Columbus Emergency Management Director Chance Corbett.
Corbett toured the damaged area with a National Weather Service investigator Monday morning.
“It was on the ground for 2.6 miles starting at the Beaver Run subdivision and ended at Garrett Road,” Corbett said.
It went through the northern part of Bull Creek Golf Course, a 36-hole municipal course, at about 4 p.m. Two golfers, Matthew Terrell Collins, Sr., 58, and Matthew Terrell Collins, Jr., 29, were killed when a pine tree struck their golf cart.

- Auburn High School has produced yet another product that will suit up to play for the Auburn University Tigers. Omar Mabson, who averaged 138 yards per game this past season, joins a host of former teammates by signing to Hugh Freeze's squad.
Mabson was a fundamental aspect of the offense of Auburn High's terrific 2024-2025 team, which finished the regular season 10-1. Mabson led the team in yards per game and total touchdowns. He also carried for over 1500 yards, contributing in every game throughout the 2024 season.
It'd be easy to assume that Mabson was a senior this past season, but he was actually a junior. He will be foregoing his senior season to join Auburn early.

The readings will barley climb above freezing, with wind chill values dipping as low as single digits 0-4° Wednesday. Wind chills continue through Saturday.
Wednesday the sky will clear, however, the accumulative snow will create travel issues and evergreen trees that collect snow on the branches will weigh down and possibly snap limbs or topple trees, along with the wind. Clearly this could lead to power issues and outlying areas, and those with wells may be an issue.
