- YouTube celebrates its 20th anniversary this Friday. Since its launch in 2005 as a video-sharing platform, it has transformed into a global content giant. With a vast array of self-produced shows, DIY video tutorials, and an easily accessible archive of historical content, the possibilities are virtually endless. Big production companies are in on the action as well: Warner Bros. just released 31 movies on the site for free.
On this episode of Studio 2, we explore how YouTube changed the game for casual users and content creators, and we also consider the future of video streaming, particularly with the rise of A.I.-generated content.

- Description
- It seems like everyone is on weight loss medications these days. Drop a few pounds and someone will surely ask: was it Ozempic? But many people aren’t actually taking the name brand prescription medications — instead, knockoff versions created at compounding pharmacies. A splashy ad during Super Bowl 59 pitched easy, affordable access to these compounded drugs from the telehealth company Hims & Hers Health Inc. But absent was the long laundry list of side effects or any statement that these aren’t FDA approved. That worried a lot of physicians.
On this episode of Studio 2, we ask: are we passing out pills too easily? Or should everyone have access to these so-called miracle weight-loss meds? And what about safety and regulations for the copycat compounded versions of drugs for hair growth or erectile dysfunction?

- As tech continues to take over our lives, some people are craving a simpler, less connected vibe, opting for the good old days of flip phones and less digital noise.
But dialing back our use of tech isn’t so easy in a world that’s been built around the ubiquity of smartphones. From social pressures to work expectations to daily conveniences, attempting to become a luddite takes a lot of sacrifice.
On this episode of Studio 2, we talk with two people from different generations who have actually tried to make it work. And we want to hear from you: Could you go without your phone for a day? A week? Even if going totally off-grid isn’t realistic, how do you find balance in your use of tech? Setting limits on screen time? Creating tech-free zones at home?

DraftKings is facing a class action lawsuit alleging it violates New Jersey consumer laws by using deceptive promotions to manipulate gamblers, leading them to develop addictions. - President Trump signed a slew of executive orders in his first week – on immigration, trade, civil rights, federal workers, and federal funding.
It appears the Trump administration is pushing the envelope on presidential power, testing limits that have been eroding for several decades under presidents in both parties. Trump’s actions are moving the goalposts further and could lead to a constitutional crisis.
So how much power does a president have? The constitution set up three equal branches of government but, practically speaking, is that still the case? Today we’ll look at the limits to executive power and if there are still guardrails to keep it in check. Do you think the presidency is becoming too powerful?

Days later, tech billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zukerberg and the CEOs of Apple and Google flanked President Trump at his inauguration, stoking further concerns about the power and influence of the ultra wealthy and Big Tech. Musk — the richest man in the world — played an especially pivotal role in supporting Trump’s campaign and now heads the new Department of Government Efficiency.
But wealthy people have always had more access and influence in politics, so is this really anything new? What, if anything, distinguishes this moment from oligarchies in the truest sense?

- Description
- Research finds most kids have been exposed to online porn by the time they turn 12. The result? Their still-developing brains can form ideas about sex, bodies and relationships that are based on performances — some graphic and violent — not real life. A Texas law mandating age verification for porn sites is before the Supreme Court, and while porn is a huge problem for underage viewers, the case brings up wider concerns about free speech.
Experts wonder if we could limit kids’ access to sexually explicit material without furthering a culture of shame for adults who consume or create pornography. Others say it’s time to consider how pornography affects people of all ages.
Today on Studio 2 we ask: How do you think the widespread availability of online pornography has changed how people, especially children, think about sex and relationships?

Companies can now harness artificial intelligence to anticipate your behavior and send you targeted content. It’s possible for smart TVs to share your viewing habits with digital marketers, so the ad you saw on Hulu could show up later on Instagram. - The 2024 election delivered resounding losses for the Democratic Party. Critical swing states broke for Donald Trump and the president-elect carried a coalition that included many working-class minority voters.
A Pew study in November found that Democrats were more pessimistic about the party’s future compared to any point over the last eight years. There’s no clear leader at the top of the party and stark divides over how to move forward on hot-button social issues related to race and gender.
Is the way forward to push back against “wokism”? Double down on progressive economic populism? Would the same agenda but a different campaigning strategy have worked for Dems in 2024? Does the policy matter much less than finding a cult-of-personality who connects more broadly with people?
On this episode of Studio 2, on the eve of Trump’s second presidency we take stock of what Democrats have learned since November 5.

The city’s homicide count has been on the decline since 2022, and his first year as top cop saw the fewest murders in a decade. Bethel’s tenure, though, hasn’t been without controversy. Encampment cleanouts in Kensington that made national headlines pushed crime into adjacent neighborhoods and highlighted a philosophical divide over how to best improve public safety.
Commissioner Bethel’s tactics include a concerted effort to get ATVs and dirt bikes off the streets, a renewed push to retain officers, increased car stops on the city’s most dangerous roads and SEPTA safety checks. The updated plan calls for a new facility co-owned by the Sixers and Flyers to be built in the South Philadelphia stadium district in a deal that appeases Sixers’ leadership, Comcast Spectacor, the building trades unions and the Chinatown coalition that opposed the downtown stadium.
Officials say the plan also includes a yet-to-be detailed idea for revitalizing Market East, and the promise of a better chance of securing a WNBA team.
