Fish and Wildlife agency members, politicians, and the public gather in Colchester to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Vermont’s Duck Stamp. A spin-off of the Federal Duck Stamp Program, the Vermont program has purchased thousands of acres of land for habitat conservation by selling duck stamps. Not only does the service conserve the land, it often restores the land to its original state before farming flatten fields and diverted streams. Conservationists can recreate wetlands as they did in the Monson Flats area in Colchcester in 2016. The area is now used by birds and wildlife as well as, the public for recreational activities. This wetland further serves to purify the water running through the flats to Lake Champlain. With public support of the Vermont Duck Stamp more valuable resources can be conserved.
