An influx of back-to-the-landers, peace activists and disenfranchised youth flocked to Vermont in the 1970s in search of a different way to live. In the process, they precipitated progressive social and political change in the state. Former Burlington City Councilor Barbara Nolfi, and Louise Andrews started the Franklin commune near Enosburg, Vermont. Bridget Downey-Meyer and Jesse Drew lived on the more political Mt. Philo commune while John Douglas founded the radical Red Clover Collective in Putney. Poet Verandah Porche was an original member of Total Loss Farm in Guilford where she still lives today. Together, these communards take us back to a time when American’s youth found a simpler way of life and forged progressive social change that impacts Vermont to this day.

- Films taken in early March of 1968 for a week-long series on maple sugaring showed maple sugar producers preparing for the upcoming sap flow. Sap collecting, pipe lines, buckets, tubing, storage tanks and all that go into the running of an efficient sugar bush operation were the focus of the programs. Films shot on location showed how sap is transformed into Vermont's nationally known product, maple syrup. Maple candy and syrup were also on display at Dakin Farm.
