Methane is a super potent greenhouse gas and is abundant on farms with large amounts of livestock. Some farmers are capturing that biogas and burning it in a generator to make electricity.

- Straddling the Burlington/Winooski border, a quaint brick building is tucked in an alley. A small black and white sign is adorned with dice, cards and a chess piece. This is The Boardroom, Vermont’s only café dedicated to board games.
“We have about 700 games to play,” says Kerry Winger, owner and founder of The Boardroom.
Winger says she wanted a place for people to meet and hang out. She got the idea in 2019 after reading a book about the history of board games.
“And to me that just sounded perfect because people are on their phone too much,” she says. “We don't have Wi-Fi; we have signs that say, ‘No Wi-Fi. Play board games, talk to each other.’"
The Boardroom’s collection goes far beyond favorites like Monopoly, Clue or cards.

- Vinyl records, once viewed as a relic of the past, have been making a comeback in recent years. In fact, in 2022, records made up 70% of all physical music sales, outselling CDs for the first time in 35 years.
In this video, host Connor Cyrus learns more about the world of vinyl records. He starts by learning how they're made by speaking with the owner of the Burlington Record Plant and even jumps in on the action by using his new skills to press a record himself.
"You hear it time and time again, people do like tangible objects, and they like the feel of vinyl," says owner Justin Crowther. "I feel like you get the opportunity for high-resolution artwork. The idea of the vinyl color matching the artwork I think is really special."

- Climate change is making weather more extreme in Vermont and across the country. In a lot of places, our electricity infrastructure — poles and wires — are pretty exposed. Nationwide, our power grid was built for less stormy times.
And that’s a problem, as Vermont and other places look to power more and more of our heat and transportation with electricity from renewable sources.
So how do we make our grid more reliable at the same time we’re trying to make it cleaner? Some people say creating “microgrids” could help.
A microgrid is a little section that can pop off from the rest of the grid during a power outage to become an island. It makes its own electricity and stores it.
For the people connected to a microgrid, they don’t even know there’s been a power outage.

- The last of Vermont’s abandoned copper mines are finally slated for clean up. The stream runs clear on the side of Corinth's Pike Hill. But the air smells of sulfur. And the water is more acidic than lemon juice. Its pH is about 2, which means heavy metals like aluminum, manganese, iron and zinc are dissolved in the water.
“So you can get what looks like a nice, clean stream, but because of the pH, it can be absolutely loaded in metals,” Ed Hathaway explained.
He’s a project manager with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and has been working to clean up old mining sites in New England like this one for more than 30 years.
Last month, the federal government announced new funding to help clean up Pike Hill, while money for the clean up of another nearby copper mine, the Ely Mine in Vershire, was set aside in 2021.
They’re both designated as Superfund sites for the toxic water that seeps out of them.
