- Vermont is at the epicenter of two high-profile arrests by federal immigration officers. Both involve pro-Palestinian university students, Mohsen Mahdawi of White River Junction, and Tufts graduate student Rümeysa Öztürk.

- Speaking outside the federal courthouse in Burlington, Vermont, ALCU of Massachusetts Legal Director Jessie Rossman said it was “extraordinarily unusual” for immigration authorities to bring Tufts University student Rümeysa Öztürk to Vermont and hold her overnight at an ICE facility in the state.
Öztürk was picked up by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents near her home in Massachusetts last month and was transported to Vermont. She is now being held at a Louisiana detention center.

The Central Vermont Career Center, a career technical school in Barre, has more applicants than they have space to admit. We talk with herpetologist Jim Andrews of Salisbury who tells us about so-called Big Nights, when humans help salamanders, frogs, and toads cross roads without getting flattened by tires.
