Local officials have received an OK to divert more water into Lake Casitas, years after prolonged drought conditions shrunk the reservoir to historic lows.
But the new measures were in effect just a matter of days and just for one storm.
The reason why is good news. This year’s steady stream of storms boosted lake levels past the “critical drought” threshold.
The city recently released its crime statistics for last year, and while the overall decline was good news, one major sour note was a spike in vehicle thefts. The city saw 783 vehicles stolen in 2018, an average of more than two per day and an increase of 13 percent from 693 in 2017.

Snow and hail fell Thursday afternoon in Ventura County and nearby areas as a cold-weather system from Canada bore down on local residents.
Light snow was reported in the Conejo Valley, including Thousand Oaks and Agoura Hills, and the California Highway Patrol reported “slushy snow” near Highway 101 and Wendy Drive in Newbury Park.
