Coast Guard crews, the Ventura County and Santa Barbara County fire departments, and Vessel Assist responded to a mayday regarding the 79-foot commercial diving vessel called Conception and operated by Truth Aquatics out of Santa Barbara Harbor.

The Gold Coast Transit District's new $53 million operations and maintenance center will not only benefit Oxnard-based Gold Coast, but its riders as well, district officials say.
The long-planned new facility, which had its ribbon-cutting last Saturday, is five times the size of the district's old facility and thus will be able to accommodate more buses.
Once acquired, the additional buses will equal more routes, more destinations, more transit frequency and less waiting time for riders in Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura and unincorporated areas between those cities, district General Manager Steve Brown said in an interview.

The city recently released its crime statistics for last year, and while the overall decline was good news, one major sour note was a spike in vehicle thefts. The city saw 783 vehicles stolen in 2018, an average of more than two per day and an increase of 13 percent from 693 in 2017.
