While Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma has twice been announced as the successor, questions surrounding the process have continued to grow.
Among them are the whereabouts of the late king's heir, a purported will said to have been written in 2022, and whether the traditional rituals performed at the burial can now be challenged
On the very day Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV was expected to mark his coronation anniversary, the Tooro Kingdom was mourning his burial.
The Omukama was laid to rest on 12th September 2026, but even before the earth had settled over his grave, a new chapter had already opened, the question of who takes over the Tooro throne.
The name of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma has been announced twice as the successor to King Oyo.
But the announcement has been met with resistance.

- Karamoja has one of the lowest literacy rates in Uganda, with adult literacy estimated at between 25 and 30 percent, compared to the national average of more than 74 percent.
Only about one in every four people aged ten years and above can read and write, while an estimated 66 to 70 percent of the population has never attended formal schooling.
Female adult literacy is even lower, estimated at about 16 percent.
The situation has been attributed to poverty, hunger, pastoralism and child labour, among other challenges.
For Evaline Cheptoo, lack of education exposed her to early marriage.
Cheptoo was married off in 2021 at the age of 13 to a 50-year-old man who already had two other wives.
After having one child, she fell sick and was abandoned by her husband, forcing her to return to her parents' home.
Her father, however, asked her to return to her husband, saying he was more interested in receiving cattle.
