- Description
- West St. Paul, just south of Downtown St. Paul, was always an area that reflected the most recent immigrants to Minnesota and the Twin Cities. Eventually, the area became a neighborhood for Mexican immigrants who were recruited to work in the sugar beet and railroad industries. West St. Paul soon became the largest Mexican community in the state, making it easier for other Spanish-speaking immigrants to find a familiar space in Minnesota.

- Description
- In 1968, after a long history of mistreatment of Black students at the University of Minnesota and the recent assassination of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., students engaged in a series of negotiations with, then president, Malcolm Moos for the support of Black students through scholarship funding, a reexamination of athletics policies and the creation of an African American Studies department. When those negotiations failed, roughly 70 students staged an occupation of the U of M’s administration building, Morrill Hall on January 14, 1969. After a 24-hours of barring anyone from entering the building, the student’s demands were met, one of which resulted in the African-American studies department. One of the first and longest lasting Black studies departments created during this period of national student movements.

This year, more than 3,000 evictions were filed across the state before Governor Walz ordered a temporary pause. Cases dwindled to just under 200 after that, and eviction courts shut down in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
But the day looms when these executive orders will expire - and then renters will have to pay the total sum that they didn't pay during the pandemic. And people of color are significantly more likely to experience housing insecurity - so what exactly does the future hold?

The pair had protested when officers detained two Black men on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis over an open-bottle violation.
One year later, another video has surfaced in another arrest, this time documenting the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. All four former Minneapolis police officers involved have been charged, including J. Alexander Kueng, the biracial brother of Taylor Kueng, now 21.
