- Teens get their plan to help food banks rolled out in every Sainsbury's
- Date posted
- Description
- A group of 13 National Citizen Service (NCS) graduates from Exeter will this week (Nov 26) see their simple idea to increase donations to food banks rolled out to Sainsbury’s stores nationwide.
The teenagers came up with the idea this summer after speaking to their local food bank during the social action phase of the national youth programme for 16 and 17-year-olds.
The group learned that shoppers often didn’t know they could donate in supermarkets or were donating the same items, making it difficult for the food bank to offer enough variety.
To combat the problem, the NCS grads came up with a simple, ingenious idea – to put a sticker next to items most needed by food banks to encourage people to donate.
The manager of their local Sainsbury’s agreed to trial the labels, which in two weeks led to a 300% increase in donations to the Exeter food bank.
They were then invited to head office of Britain’s second bigge...

- Two of the world’s most famous male statues have been spectacularly reimagined as domestic gods for a bold new campaign with the creative by Taylor Herring for Samsung.
The figures, which have been installed around central London, feature near-identical versions of the original masterpieces, bar a few cheeky tweaks.
Michelangelo’s “Domestic David” has been recreated wearing briefs, with a shirt flung over his back, as he takes charge of the weekly wash while Rodin’s ‘The Clean Thinker’ poses, deep in contemplation, at a washing machine.
Each statue took six-strong design team two months to create, working from a variety of sources to recreate a faithful rendition of each sculpture in microscopic detail. The reimagined statues of iconic male nudes give a humorous nod to revealing new Samsung research which found that 75% of men have little or no idea how to operate the domestic appliances they have at home.

Daisy was painted by the world leading body paint artist, Carolyn Roper. It took an extraordinary eight hours to complete the two set-ups.
The amazing artwork was specially designed to celebrate the launch of the Samsung QLED TV, which can also seamlessly blend into the background through its unique Ambient Mode functionality.
In the same way Daisy has been painted to disappear into her surroundings, the QLED TV can disappear into the wall behind it by mimicking wall designs, patterns and colours.
The campaign follows recent research commissioned by Samsung that reveals six in ten Brits consider big, blank TV screens to be an eyesore, as they fail to blend in with the rest of the home.
