- With the cost-of-living crisis continuing to bite, councils across the UK are being forced to make difficult decisions to save money, with many cancelling Christmas light displays and switch-on events altogether. One such town is Liscard on the Wirral, where budget cuts have led to a lacklustre festive display, including a bare Christmas tree once dubbed the worst in the UK.
To bring the magic of Christmas to Liscard, Asda stepped in. They transformed Liscard town centre with decorations, choirs and festive cheer, helping restore a sense of community spirit with a much-needed festive makeover.
To make the moment even more special, Atomic Kitten singer Natasha Hamilton added the finishing touch to the newly adorned 30ft tree and switched on the Christmas lights, before treating the community to a special performance.

In fact, one third of the most experienced volunteers no longer take part in the programme. Progress has been made in increasing volunteers, but with more than 1,300 puppies needing to be placed with dedicated volunteers every year there is still a need for volunteers, particularly in Northern England.
Guide Dogs are working with Chef & Brewer, part of the Greene King pub group, to launch the first ever Guide Dogs ‘Puppy Hour’ to encourage volunteers to take part in the programme, while showing that Guide Dogs is there to support these volunteers as well as those with a vision impairment.
