The 10-minute film, which opened the lavish Mediterrane Film Festival's final awards gala night in June, became controversial after industry sources estimated it cost at least half a million euros in taxpayer money.
After Times of Malta requested a copy of the clip, the film commission promised to make it public within three months. The entire awards show - including the film - was broadcast on TVM last Friday night.

“I take these things seriously enough that I have called for serious disciplinary action against the officer involved. We don’t tolerate these shortcomings,” he said.

Earlier this week, a Times of Malta investigation revealed how constable Gosef Tanti rented out an apartment on Norfolk Street in Sliema to almost three times the number of tenants permitted by law.
Tanti admitted to subletting the property in breach of regulations limiting the number of unrelated tenants to six per dwelling.

- The spread of construction and new buildings in green areas is causing Malta’s hedgehog population to become inbred, according to Nature Trust Malta.
Vince Attard, the CEO of the organisation that cares for injured wildlife, said they had noticed this worrying trend which is leading to increased health problems among the hedgehogs that come to their treatment centre.
“Before, when there were less buildings, there were what we call natural corridors, which would allow hedgehogs to move between villages, for example from Marsaxlokk they would go to Marsascala or Żejtun,” Attard said.
“Now we are cutting off the connections between green areas, which causes a lot of interbreeding because the community continues to mate with the same individuals in the area.”

Video footage sent to Times of Malta shows an official at WT Global and an owner of Ferruggia Fleet – two of Malta’s largest cab driver employers – telling workers they will engage them on minimum wage contracts regardless of their earnings.
It means they would still only pay tax on a declared minimum wage.
Non-EU cab drivers in Malta – legally referred to as ‘third country nationals’ – must be employed by companies, known as ‘fleets’ – that provide drivers for platforms like Bolt. Despite picking up riders through the Bolt application, these drivers are not employed or paid directly by Bolt but by fleets that are their legal employers.

Sergey Markov of Dive Systems Malta has taken this footage of a rare monk seal first seen off the southwest coast of Malta last week.
This was the first time in decades that a monk seal was spotted in Maltese waters.
While native to the Mediterranean region, human activity has driven the species to now being classified as vulnerable but increasing, with a population thought to be less than 1,000.
The last official recorded sighting of the animal dates back to the late 1990s, according to the Environment and Resources Authority.

- As Russian missiles struck a children's hospital in Kyiv on Monday morning, the founder of a Malta-based aid organisation was out jogging, a short distance away.
“We were out in the park exercising when the air raid siren signalled an incoming attack," Chris Catrambone said. "After a few minutes, we could hear the Patriot battery launching missiles to intercept the Russian missiles. And then you could see three or four exploding in mid-air.”
Over 30 people were killed in the attack, with the number of dead set to rise.
Speaking to Times of Malta from Ukraine's capital city just a few hours after the strike, Catrambone described the attack as “one of the deadliest and one of the loudest for quite a while.”

What began as a normal day trip in the capital ended up with the man and his family living in “fear and trauma”, worried that such an attack could happen again.
The incident happened in the afternoon of May 30 on Merchant Street, while the man was sightseeing with his wife, two children and friends.
“I’ve been to many countries, and we were all excited about visiting Malta,” he said about the five-day holiday.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that while crossing the intersection of Merchant Street and St Christopher Street, a motorcyclist “deliberately” pushed his friend.

- A tenant was forced to call the police when his landlord burst into his bedroom while he was sleeping and threatened to kill him in a dispute over a rental contract.
Aleksandar Vukoje told Times of Malta he was woken up on Thursday afternoon by his landlord, who, he said, accessed his apartment without permission and burst into his room shouting abuse.
Video footage of the incident shows the landlord telling Vukoje he was going to make him bankrupt and “slit your throat”, in a tirade of abuse lasting around 10 minutes that only ended after police arrived on the scene.
