- Days of tension over stalled gun safety legislation in the Minnesota House erupted into yelling matches, with Democrats taking over the chamber and demanding Speaker Lisa Demuth hold a vote.
Democrats are staging a House chamber sit-in until Saturday over the lack of movement on the issue, a shift in tone that came just hours after top legislative leaders had announced a bipartisan deal to end the 2026 legislative session.
The Minnesota Senate last week passed legislation that would ban assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines, expand requirements for safely storing firearms and provide school security and mental health funding. Similar assault weapons and magazine legislation failed in House committees earlier in the legislative session.
But Demuth, R-Cold Spring, has not taken a procedural step that would allow it to move forward in the House. Rep. Emma Greenman, DFL-Minneapolis, tried to bypass committees to take it up on the House flo...

Minnesota Star Tribune sports columnist Chip Scoggins joins host Melissa Townsend to unpack why transfers are such a flashpoint in high school sports, how Minnesota’s eligibility rules work, what loopholes schools and families are accused of using, and why the rise of year-round youth sports, college recruiting and NIL money has changed the stakes for student athletes.
They also discuss why the issue is more complicated than “good” or “bad” - and what high school sports may be losing as the system becomes more competitive, expensive and intense.

At this North Star Live event with Minnesota Star Tribune columnist Allison Kaplan, Nassif shares how she helped transform the household cleaning products industry - first with Caldrea, then with Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day, the beloved brand inspired by her mother, Thelma Meyer.
Nassif traces her grit, creativity and entrepreneurial drive to Thelma, now 93, the “real” Mrs. Meyer and the hero of Nassif’s new book, “I Bottled My Mother.” In this conversation, Nassif reflects on the power of hard work, smart branding, family influence and knowing when to disrupt your own success.

But this latte video was different.
Little Joy posted the recipe scaled for coffee shops and invited others to use it, tracking its reach with pins on a map. There are now hundreds of shops worldwide making the drink — and the map has nearly 4 million views.
The video itself has been viewed almost a million times. The shop’s Instagram following shot up by nearly 50,000 followers. And somewhere along the way, Little Joy Coffee went from a small-town cafe to a full-fledged production studio with global reach.
