Description: The current whole-house exhibit at the Trail End Historic Site in Sheridan takes us back to a much simpler time. The exhibit is titled, No Time for Boredom: Making the Most of Leisure Time in a "Screenless" Society. In today's technology driven world it almost seems unfathomable to think of life without our personal gadgets that consume most of our lives. The No Time for Boredom exhibit at Trail End will run through December 14th. Prout added that they will be open this Labor Day weekend from 10 am to 5 pm, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. After Labor Day, the hours at Trail End will be 1 to 4 pm daily through the remainder of the season.

Description: Sometimes the best is saved for last and as the rodeo season winds down, the 2010 Elks Youth Rodeo was full steam ahead. It was all sheer grit and determination as over 150 kids, 17-years-old and under, competed in the rodeo held at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds this past weekend. And it was the prizes, mixed in with a whole lot of fun, that brought on that determination.

Youth from over nine states came to Sheridan to compete. Senior Overall Champion went to Kristi Steffes. In addition to the Ford Truck Lease provided by Fremont Motors, Kristi received a $2,000 All Around Youth Reserve Champion Scholarship and buckles in Pole Bending, Flag Racing, and Ribbon Racing. Rickie Engesser won the trailer provided by Prime Rate Motors-Jackson Trailer Sales for being the All Around Youth Champion.

The Elks Youth Rodeo is the largest non-affiliated rodeo in the nation.

Description: There was a party in Story over the weekend and it included the whole community. It was Story Days and it was all about good times with good friends and neighbors. The three day event began Friday with a Dutch oven cook-off, silent auction and historical walking tour.

Saturday began bright and early with the Fireman's breakfast, followed by a parade, Indian ceremonial dancing, and a spinning demonstration. But the events which brought the crowds in was the Mutton Busting for the kids and Chicken Roping for all ages.

Sunday started off with a community church service, pot luck lunch, followed by an old fashioned softball game and other family events.

Description: Fifty athletes participated in the 4th Annual Dirt Duathlon held Saturday August 14th 2010 on the Forbes Ranch south of Sheridan. A fundraiser for the Diabetes Strip Assistance Program at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, money raised helps area low-income and uninsured diabetics get the blood glucose test strips they need to monitor their blood sugar levels.

The event featured six age group categories and four team categories. Also, for the first time this year, a one-mile run and two-mile bike ride was offered to kids fifteen and under.

Description: It was the locals trying to outdo their neighbors at the 30th Annual Sheridan County Rodeo held this past weekend at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. Over 200 adults and 40-plus kids entered the family-friendly rodeo.

A local event put on by local people and sponsored by local businesses, the rodeo might be small, but it's all about tradition.

Participants competed in over two dozen events, including steer roping, barrel racing, pole bending, and goat tying, but the event that drew the most attention and laughter was the wild cow milking contest.

Description: The front lawn of Sheridan College turned into a metropolis of culinary, visual, and performing art as hundreds showed up to take a look at the 42 visual artists' booths on display. The free event featured 20 hours of live music and entertainment, a quick draw competition, and welding rodeo, plus all sorts of activities for the kids.

It was the 5th annual Big West Arts Festival held Saturday and Sunday at Sheridan College.

At one point on Saturday afternoon northwesterly winds kicked up enough to cause the artists to "batton down the hatches" and hang on tight to their canvas galleries, but that didn't dissuade the crowds.

Ranked #54 among the top 200 art fairs in the country the Big West Arts Festival is not a western art festival, but an art festival in the big West.

The Miniature Horse Show was held Saturday afternoon at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds, and some of the little wranglers had their hands full. Call it a case of the "Nervous Nellies", but sometimes those midget horses just wouldn't perform for their 4-H handlers.

That's the theme of the Sheridan WYO Rodeo and Saturday night began with the time-honored tradition -- the annual "Boot Kick-off." It was all about technique -- or lack of it; the kind of sock you wear, or no sock at all; kicking that boot way up high, or shooting it fast and straight. No matter which way they kicked it, it was a great way to kick off this year's Sheridan WYO Rodeo. Gina Juroszek-Smith garnered 1st in the 18 and over women's category, and Tyler Wells took 1st in the men's 18 and over division.

But that wasn't all. Those little buckaroos had their turn at the starting gate. Before the boot kick-off, those wee wranglers, eight and under, mounted their steeds and competed in the timed event...barrel racing. Yup, those little cowpokes took off on their stick horses and ran as fast as they could in the cloverleaf pattern around the barrels.

Description: There's no mistaking that unique, irregular rumble that a Harley Davidson makes, but bring close to 200 of the motorcycles to town and you have a party. The Wyoming State H.O.G. Rally -- that's Harley Owners Group -- is meeting this weekend in Sheridan.

It's all about getting together with fellow Harley owners and having a good time. That fun in Sheridan includes a couple of riding poker runs plus one walking poker run downtown, giving Harley enthusiasts the opportunity to savor historic Downtown Sheridan.

Loyalty to the brand and to each other are marks of Harley owners. Forty-seven states host the H.O.G. rallies, and only registered Harley owners can participate. Riders can also participate in a variety of Observation Runs to the historic sites in the area. Other events include Bike Games, Off-Bike games, and a pig roast.

The H.O.G. Rallies began 26 years ago and now over 1 point five million riders participate.

Description: Despite a rain-filled morning, the star-spangled sky over the Bighorns were flushed with fireworks this Fourth for the annual Independence Day celebration at the Bighorn Equestrian Center.

Before the fireworks show, festivities began with jams by Celtic Sage and The Powder River Boys--with plenty of dancing to accompany their tunes. There was also a "quick" art show by 12-year-old Lauren Sarantopulos; impromptu soccer, football and other games were also in the mix.

The fireworks were choreographed with music aired on Sheridan Media's Z94 FM. Wyoming Senator Bruce Burns, who moonlights as a fireworks connoisseur, hosted the show.

Description: The local Colgate Country Showdown competition, sponsored by KYTI 93.7 The Coyote was held Friday night at the Best Western Sheridan Center. There were nine contestants who competed to move on to the state competition. In the end the Eric May Band out of Gillette took home the top prize.

The Eric May Band will now advance to the state competition to be held August 7th in Great Falls, Montana, with a chance to move on to the regional competition at a site yet to be determined.

over 70 riders took part in the 2nd Annual "Bikers Against Bruises—No Excuse for Abuse" motorcycle poker run.

It all began 10 a.m. at the Sheridan Holiday Inn as riders took off to the top of the Big Horns with stops at the Elkview Inn, then on to Greybull, Worland, Buffalo, and finally returning to Sheridan.

It was a fundraiser to help the Advocacy Resource Center in Sheridan which is committed to helping the victims of violent crimes in Sheridan County.

Riders paid $50 each to participate in the event and were treated to a t-shirt, dinner, and music after the ride.

Description: They might be small, but they couldn't have been any prouder at the 3rd Annual Parkman Days held Saturday. There was a home town parade with about 15 entries and close to 50 people showed up to watch.

Activities continued throughout the day, which included a chuckwagon cook-off, a DJ playing music during the afternoon, all followed by an Oklahoma swing band that evening. It was a day set apart for some good old-fashioned family fun.

Named after Francis Parkman, the town sits just south of the Montana border and boasts a population of just over 100.

Recently returning home from a year-long deployment to Kuwait and Iraq, the soldiers of the 115th Fires Brigade were honored in a ceremony at the Holiday Inn.

Called the Freedom Salute Ceremony, Governor Dave Freudenthal and U.S. Senator John Barasso were on hand to commend and thank the soldiers and their families for their sacrifice in protecting our freedoms.

This was the sixth of seven Freedom Salute Ceremonies being held across the state this month.

Description: Students in Mr. Peterson's history classes at Sheridan Junior High School just completed their 2nd Semester research project. For twelve years in all teaching history, and for the fourth year since coming to SJHS, Mr. Peterson has had his students make a quilt. One year a quilt was made up of squares showing the history of how Sheridan's street names came to be. This year, he tells us, the theme is on Sheridan County Women.

More than just making the quilt squares, Mr. Peterson says that the students began working on the project in mid-April, with the assistance of the Sheridan County Museum, the Wyoming Room at the Fulmer Library, and the Trail End Historic Site.

And adding to the "cool factor" of the research, many of the women highlighted on the quilt are still living, which actually posed a challenge to the students who had them as subjects.

The quilt squares are made up in a star pattern, giving the women the honor they are due. During the sum...
