- Description
- Ep. 388 of The Sunday #NYTReadalong will focus on The Supreme Court’s blockbuster ruling on President Trump’s Tariffs and the arrest of a former Royal in Great Britain (and how the international fallout from the Epstein Files contrasts with the lack of accountability in the U.S.).
At the top of the show, Prof. Walter Greason will share a few thoughts on Rev. Jesse Jackson.
The show is co-hosted by Sree Sreenivasan and Neil Parekh. Fair warning: They have strong opinions about all three of these issues. They’ll also, of course, review the Sunday New York Times, as well.
In case you missed it, last week they held a Tribute to The Washington Post. Pradnya Joshi and Richard Prince were their guests on a very special show.

- Extreme caste inequality drives India's scam wave: Snigdha Poonam | Scroll Adda
- Date posted
- Description
- We all know someone who has been scammed over the internet. It could be a dramatic digital arrest scam or something milder like a phishing scam.
In her new book, Scamlands, journalist Snigdha Poonam explores this epidemic. For many Indians, desperation drives them to become scammers. Shut out by the iron gates of caste, communal prejudice and poverty, tricking the elite is often the only way out of the shackles Indian society.
On the other side, for the people getting scammed, it is often a moment of deep shame. Scammers gain their confidence and then abuse it for money. The experience is so jarring that in many cases, people do not even admit to being scammed.

- Episode -37: Labour Codes for whom - Workers or Corporates?
- Date posted
- Description
- In this episode, Indira Jaising, veteran lawyer and activist, Amarjeet Kaur, General Secretary of India's first trade union AITUC(All India Trade Union Congress), and Gautam Mody, General Secretary of NTUI (New Trade Union Initiative), discuss with Harsh Mander about the 4 Labour Codes that have replaced the 44 labour laws that prevailed in the past.
They explain how these laws have effectively dismantled even the weakened labour protections of the earlier labour laws. They have legitimised a regime of contract and casual work, even in the formal public sector, and of "hire and fire". They have excluded the majority of workers from the weak labour protections that remain. The right to form unions, to collectively bargain and to strike have been substantially decimated. They question why the trade unions were not involved in the discussion of the consultation process of the codes.
They also argue that the new labour codes reinforce existing social hierarchies ...

- Date posted

- Description
- US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that time is running out for the Islamic republic to prevent American military intervention in the country, as Tehran rejected holding negotiations against a backdrop of threats.
Trump has never ruled out a new attack on Iran in the wake of its deadly crackdown on protests this month. This follows the 12-day June war between the Islamic republic and Israel which the US backed and joined.
A US naval strike group that Trump described as an "armada" led by aircraft carrier the USS Abraham Lincoln is now lurking in Middle East waters.
