SAASSAP says research shows that university students are particularly vulnerable to gambling-related harm, including financial distress, addiction, anxiety, declining academic performance, and broader mental health challenges globally.
In South Africa there are also concerns about student financial aid allowances being diverted towards gambling and online betting activities.
The symposium will be held this coming Tuesday (23 June 2026).
