- Date posted
- Description
- On Tuesday South Africa marked exactly 50 years since the historic June 16, 1976 uprising, a defining moment in our country's struggle for freedom and justice.
While the youth of 1976 fought against political oppression, today's generation faces a different challenge: economic exclusion, unemployment, and inequality.
This year's commemoration theme is "RESET@50 – The Future Calls", with the slogan "Our National Commitment to the Future, for Freedom Lives in Every Generation", and is further anchored by the focus "Mapping the Barriers: Auditing Access for Economic Inclusion", prompting an important conversation about whether South Africa's young people have truly gained access to meaningful opportunities five decades later.
Joining us to unpack this is Activist and Researcher, Masonwabe Fuma, and NYDA Board Member, Kelly Baloyi.
