Documentation is one of the main tools that are helping in dismantling genocide denial.
‘Jardin de la Mémoire’ (Garden of Memory) located at Nyanza Genocide Memorial in Kicukiro District, is one such case that’s preserving and shining a light to the memory of those who were lost during the genocide.

But that is not Irene Mukahirwa, one of the best female mechanics in Rwanda. Not even motherhood could stop the 32-year-old, who from an early age vowed to do the kind of work done by boys and excel at it.

It was the scene of the deadly attack by the defunct FAR soldiers and the genocidal Interahamwe militia on the night of March 18, 1997.
Mujawamahoro and Ndemeye died on the spot during the cold-blooded attack, along with five other students [Sylvestre Bizimana (S6), Beatrice Mukambaraga (S6), Séraphine Mukarutwaza (S5), and Hélène Benimana, who was in S5].
The students were killed when the abacengezi (infiltrators) opened fire and hurled grenades into students after the latter famously refused to separate themselves along ethnic lines.

Luladey Takele Teshome has joined forces with Astérie Hitimana of Twinkle by Asty Fashion House for a project dubbed ‘Untitled’ that fuses art and fashion. It was launched on February 26.
“We actually named it ‘Untitled’ because we wanted to engage the audience and our customers. We wanted to engage other Africans, to actually have a say in what we were creating,”
“It came from the desire to merge art with fashion, and trying to create something new and fresh that is for Rwanda. Initially, what we had in mind was we would have an art piece as well as a collection and we would have that out,” Lula says.
Lula collaborated with Hitimana, who has been in the fashion industry for five years, to give fabrics a local and artistic touch at the same time. The duo is making clothes which they believe makes an ‘African’ statement whenever one wears them.
