- Thousands of Congolese refugees in Rwanda organised a peaceful march in protest of the continued killing of people from the Tutsi, Banyamulenge and Hema communities in eastern DR Congo.
Refugees in Karongi District, Western Province, marched around Kiziba refugee camp carrying placards that accused the Congolese government and militia groups like FDLR, Mai Mai Nyatura, and CODECO, of committing genocide.
The refugees called on the international community to take action and "stop genocide" that is also supported by Burundian forces as well as troops from the Southern African Development Community (SADC), who are fighting alongside a DR Congo government-led coalition against the M23 rebels in North Kivu Province.

- When he was growing up, Ivan Munyengango had a dream to be a professional footballer, playing for a big football club in Europe or elsewhere, living off the crafty skills of his feet.
But like many young footballers on the continent, that dream vanished into thin air. The chances of breaking into professional ranks will always be slim, and nearly impossible.
Today, the 36-year-old father of one stands out as Rwanda’s biggest fitness entrepreneur. His story is that of a frustrated aspiring footballer who went into fitness to remain in shape – but in the gym, he found his passion.
Munyengango owns Cali Fitness, located in Nyarutarama (mu Kabuga), and the popular Waka, with two fitness and wellness facilities in Kimihurura and in town, which he recently acquired through his company, FitPipo Ltd, to grow his portfolio.
Munyengango’s growth and expansion earned him the moniker ‘fitness entrepreneur’, but it is a world he stumble...

The 47-year-old currently serving as the Executive Secretary of Rusororo Sector, Gasabo District, believes that if your heart is set on something, you do not lose momentum for anything.
Rwabukumba is one of the longest-serving executive secretaries, having joined local government in 2006. She joined when the Rwandan government was implementing decentralisation reforms, replacing old entities with 30 new districts and 416 local administrative sectors.

- Rwanda is not secure for refugees’, they said, but that is a fallacy that Sudanese refugees currently settled in Rwanda dispel with ease, following a civil war in their country that broke out last year in April, displacing over eight million people.
For the Sudanese refugees who ended up in Rwanda, like millions of others who fled from the fighting between two rival factions, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), finding life and settling in the country is something they cannot take for granted.
In Rwanda, they have been able to settle in with their families and establish businesses to sustain themselves as they wait for the conflict, which began on April 15, 2023, to relent so that they can go back home and reunite with their loved ones.

- When Rosine Kamagaju set out in 2014 to start advocacy and awareness on autism in Rwanda, she knew she was venturing into an uncharted path that would require passion and commitment given the challenges ahead.
For many Rwandans, including herself, autism – also known as the autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn and behave – was largely unknown.
It is a condition that was, and is still looked at with cultural misconceptions, stereotypes and beliefs that do not only result in stigma and discrimination of children who are born with it, but also affects their lives.
There was little information at the time about autism. In most African societies, issues that lead to children being born with certain conditions such as autism or disabilities are linked to cultural beliefs.
When Kamagaju encountered autism and got to know about it, her memory ran back to her childho...

- Back in the day, before internet-based audio and video streaming platforms such as YouTube, Spotify and social media became a thing, it took quite an effort for African musicians to breakthrough on the international scene and be recognised at the global stage.
Growing up, names like Angelique Kidjo, Fela Kuti, Youssou N'Dour, Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela and many others, were echoed across the world and their music played on global networks.
Their music transcended melodies, beats, vocals and their art carried messages. Some still live, others have passed on but it’s the legacy they built that keeps them alive.
Among those iconic names is Khadja Nin, the girl from Burundi, who went and conquered the world with her powerful and emotive music, which stayed true to traditional African roots.
Her story shows that in art, you do not have to change your identity to fit in. For Khadja Nin, it paid off tremendously.

- At the hospital, we were met by Dr Piet Noë, an ophthalmologist and ophthalmic surgeon, who hails from Belgium but has been living in Rwanda for the past 15 years, five of which he has spent running the hospital.
Noë is a simple, soft spoken and down to earth man, who remains focused on delivering the change he envisaged when he set out to start the hospital in 2018, which is touching people’s lives.
The passionate ophthalmologist says the biggest challenge they face today is that the majority of people first try to treat conditions using traditional medicine yet this is one of the delicate medical fields where traditional methods of treatment are not efficient at all.
Their speciality over other hospitals is that they do a lot of surgeries and they offer all types of eye treatment, which makes them sort of unique from other eye hospitals. Also, the fact that they are accessed by patients using Mutuelle de Sante makes Rwanda Charity Eye Hospital unique, acc...

- Every January 1, Rwandans honour the people who demonstrated remarkable bravery and selflessness, eventually paying the ultimate price for their country's unity and freedom. Rwanda has three heroes’ mausoleums; the National Heroes Mausoleum, in Kigali, Nyange Mausoleum, also dubbed the Heritage of Rwandan Identity, in Ngororero District, Western Province, and the Heritage of Humanity, formerly called Centre St Pierre, in Rubavu District, also in Western Province.
Nyange Mausoleum pays tribute to the courageous students of Nyange Secondary School. Ecole Secondaire de Nyange, nestled in the middle of a hilly region, was the scene of a deadly attack by the remnants of genocidal regime’s army and Interahamwe militia on the night of March 18, 1997, two years after the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. The infiltrators, then known as Abacengezi, attacked high school students and mercilessly killed them because they had refused to separate themselves along the ethnic lines of Hutu and Tu...

More than two years after Rwanda deployed troops to Mozambique’s province of Cabo Delgado, the region’s women – who bore the brunt of the IS-linked terrorists’ savagery and still suffer from its consequences – are persevering despite the setbacks. Among other horrors, many women and girls seized during the terrorists’ raids were turned into sex slaves.
But even with all the prevailing challenges, the women of Cabo Delgado are trudging on, eager and more than willing to partake in the Province’s socioeconomic development. They exemplify resilience and community spirit, fostering a future of hope and recovery. Their stories echo sentiments of gratitude.

He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 19th National Dialogue Council, Umushyikirano where he implored leaders present to take their work serious and always aim at doing what can lead to the transformation of people’s lives.
“We are here to deliver for the people and change their livelihood. Short of this, you are doing nothing and you are better off throwing in the towel,” he said, adding that they do not have the luxury of delegating their responsibilities.
