- How can countries promote fair market conditions when corruption affects everyday life and business activity? Corruption can limit economic development, reduce equal opportunities and weaken trust in markets. Across Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Africa and Uzbekistan, a majority of citizens report being personally affected by corruption, while many businesses identify it as a major concern.
Since 2009, the OECD, with support from the Siemens Integrity Initiative, has worked across 8 beneficiary countries to address these challenges. Using a collective action approach and international good practices, the initiatives bring together governments, civil society, businesses and academia to support integrity, fair competition and policy reform.
These efforts also promote a culture of integrity through university education, helping strengthen the foundations for sustainable and inclusive economic development.
